DECEMBER 14, 1999
The regular meeting of the Rosemead City Council was called to order by Mayor Vasquez at
8:03 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, 8838 E. Valley Boulevard, Rosemead,
California.
The Pledge to the Flag was led by Mayor Vasquez
The Invocation was delivered by Pastor Dennis Alexander of the Rosemead Nazarene
Church
ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS:
Present: Councilmembers Bruesch, Imperial, Taylor, Mayor Pro Tern Clark, and
Mayor Vasquez

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: NOVEMBER 9, 1999 - REGULAR MEETING
Councilman Taylor requested that the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of November 9,
1999 be deferred for corrections. There being no objection, the Mayor so ordered.
PRESENTATIONS:
The City Council presented a Resolution to Jess Gonzalez in recognition of his 40 years
of selfless service to the community and his efforts to redirect the lives of many "at risk" youth
through the Rosemead Rebel Football Program. Mr. Gonzalez was selected by the Sporting
Goods Manufacturers Association as its State of California 1999 HEROES Award Winner. Mr.
Gonzalez is also a contender for the National HEROES Award.
Mr. Gonzalez thanked the Council for their presentation and Councilman Bruesch for
nominating him. Mr. Gonzalez stated that his work with the Rebels has been very gratifying,
especially seeing so many kids become self-sustaining citizens.

Mr. Taylor requested that this item be deferred to the next meeting for clarification of the
footage of the proposed locations of the parking spaces to be removed.

VIII. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE
William Gunther, 2654 Dubonnet, Rosemead, stated that he wanted to thank the members
of the Council that had prayed for him during his recent illness.
Gilbert Villa, Durham Transportation, stated that he was here tonight representing the
Rosemead Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Villa thanked the Council for their support of the
Chamber during 1999. Mr. Villa announced that the Mixer this Thursday will be held at Sanwa
Bank; the January 13'h mixer will be held at 1~` Federal Bank; and the Eggs and Issues Breakfast
will be held at Charley Brown's on January 28'h and will feature Sheriff Lee Baca.
Don Wagner, Assistant City Manager, stated that the City is sending a Sheriffs Deputy to
Temecula to attend a two-week training course on commercial vehicle enforcement.

DECEMBER 14, 1999
The adjourned regular meeting of the Rosemead City Council was called to order by Mayor
Vasquez at 7:15 p.m. in the Council Room of the City Hall, 8838 E. Valley Boulevard,
Rosemead, California.
ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS:
Present: Councilmembers Bruesch, Imperial, Taylor, Mayor Pro Tern Clark, and
Mayor Vasquez
Absent: None
1. CLOSED SESSION
The Council met in a Closed Session at 7:15 p.m., pursuant to Government Code
§54956.9 (a), to discuss Greater Los Angeles Hotel/Motel Association v. City of Rosemead. Los
Angeles Superior Court No. BC 214108 for the following purpose:
CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL - EXISTING LITIGATION
Peter Wallin, City Attorney, stated that the Council met in a Closed Session for the
purposes stated on the Agenda and no action was taken.
