CC - 1977-21 - Amending to the Relocation LawRESOLUTION NO. 77-21 so A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD CALIFORNIA PETITIONING THE CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATURE FOR AN AMENDMENT TO THE RELOCATION LAW (GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 7260 ET SEQ.) AND TO EXEMPT GOVERNMENT ENTITIES FROM PAYING RELOCATION BENEFITS TO ILLEGAL ALIENS. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD, CALIFORNIA, RESOLVES THAT: WHEREAS, substantial numbers of,illegal aliens live within the borders of virtually all cities within California; and WHEREAS, illegal aliens tend to reside in quarters which are overcrowded and exhibit tendencies of high transiency; and WHEREAS, the public body, when acquiring a structure inhabited by substantial numbers of illegal aliens is, under current law, required to pay relocation benefits to all such persons residing on the site being acquired; and WHEREAS, the obligation to pay such relocation benefits is of little or no benefit to the community as a whole, the individual recipient, or the financial well-being of the community burdened by the obligation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Rosemead petitions the California State Legislature for an amendment to the relocation laws to exempt government entities acquiring real property from the obligation to pay relocation benefits to illegal aliens who are tenants on the property being acquired; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT: Section 2. The Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to all elected legislators serving the City of Rosemead, the Governor of the State of California, the Director of the State.Department of Housing and Community Development, Congressman George Danielson, Clerk of the United States Congress, the Contract Cities Association, and the League of California Cities.
