RESOLUTION NO. 80-10
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF R0SEMEAD URGING SUPPORT OF THE "LISTEN"
DRUG EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the community of Rosemead and surrounding communities
recognize the dangers of drug abuse in both elementary
and high school age groups, and
WHEREAS, drug abuse at these ages undermines the moral fibre of
of-these future citizens of the community,and
WHEREAS, drug abuse results in an increase in crime and community
disruption and the added cost of Police protection and
other associated community services is of concern to the
taxpayer, and
WHEREAS, the Rosemead Kiwanis Club has.joined with the community .
crusade against drugs to implement the use of the "Listen"
program, an'educational assistance program to combat drug
abuse, for the junior and senior high schools in Rosemead,
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Terry Irvine of Rosemead Senior High School, Walter
Emerson of Muscatel Junior High School.and Roger Temple
of the Garvey School District have requested that the
"Listen" program be used in junior and senior high schools
in the community, and
WHEREAS, the "Listen", program has been used effectively in many
communities in California and the other states, and
WHEREAS, the Rosemead Kiwanis Club desires to seek the financial
assistance of the business community of Rosemead to fund
the implementation and ongoing cost of the "Listen" pro-
gram;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD SUPPORTS
the effort of the Rosemead.Kiwanis Club,.the Community cru-
sade against drugs, and the Rosemead High Schools to im-
plement the "Listen" program against drug abuse and urges
the Rosemead business community and individual citizens
to support the "Listen" program in spirit and with their
financial assistance.
