A RESOLUTION OF.THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE'CITY OF
ROSEMEAD URGING THE CALIFORNIA STATE ATTORNEY
GENERAL TO CHALLENGE THE LEGALITY OF PROPOSITION
"A" SALES TAX INCREASE.
WHEREAS,'the'.voters of,the State of California overwhelm-
ingly approved the'Tax Limitation Initiative which appeared on
the 1978 Ballot as.Proposition 13; and.
WHEREAS, the said Proposition 13 requires that all tax in-
creases be approved by a two-thirds' vote of the electors; and
WHEREAS, Proposition "A" on the Los Angeles County 1980
General Election Ballot purportedly passed by less than a two-
thirds' vote.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY 'COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
1. The Attorney General.of the State of.California is
hereby.urged'to institu,te,proceedings.'in a court of
'competent-jurisdiction to.challenge the legality of
Proposition "A" because of the measure's failure to
..pass by the.vote'required by Proposition.13.
2,. The City„C1`erk, is ,directed :to* 'send a copy of this
Resolution to George Deukmejian, Attorney General,
and-to.the-elected,,.State..Legislators serving Rosemead.
