TC - Minutes 02-01-07ROSEMEAD TRAFFIC COMMISSION FEBRUARY 1, 2007 The meeting of the Rosemead Traffic Commission was called to order by Chairperson Matsdorf at 7:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers, 8838 East Valley Boulevard, Rosemead. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Chairperson Matsdorf INVOCATION Commissioner Knapp ROLL CALL Present: Chairperson Matsdorf, Commissioner Quintanilla, Commissioner Knapp, Commissioner Hunter & Commissioner Masuda Absent: None APPROVAL OF MINUTES It was moved by Commissioner Masuda, seconded by Commissioner Knapp, and carried unanimously to approve the minutes for October 12, 2006, with one abstention by Commissioner Matsdorf, who was not present at the October 12, 2006 meeting. PUBLIC COMMENT FROM THE AUDIENCE - NONE 3. OLD BUSINESS - NONE 4. NEW BUSINESS A. REQUEST FOR RED CURB AT 2660 RIVER Deputy Traffic Engineer Itagaki presented the staff report. RECOMMENDATION: It was staff's recommendation that the Traffic Commission recommends the City Council approve the installation of 20 feet of red curb from the driveway of 2660 River Avenue northerly. It was moved by Commissioner Knapp, seconded by Commissioner Quintanilla, and carried unanimously to approve the Traffic Engineer's recommendation. STAFF REPORTS Commissioner Knapp asked how close staff is to installing the red turn lanes on Walnut Grove Avenue. City Engineer, Ken Rukavina stated that the northbound has been re-striped, and is assessing options for lengthening the left turn lane for the southbound side. 6. COMMISSIONER REPORTS Commissioner Masuda stated that the lights are out on the eastbound freeway off- ramp at Walnut Grove. Commissioner Hunter asked if the left turn lane (northbound /southbound) at Walnut Grove and Hellman was going to help the lights. Deputy Traffic Engineer Itagaki stated that there has not been any changes to the timing of the lights. City Engineer Rukavina stated that he met with Cal-Trans in November, and they are reluctant to change the timing. If they add more green time to Walnut Grove, it would take time away from the freeway off-ramp, causing a back-up on the freeway. Commissioner Hunter stated that the "green" street signs along Walnut Grove Avenue from Klingerman to Marshall are cracked and faded, and need replacing. Commissioner Matsdorf stated that the trains have been stopping for over 45 minutes and impacting the traffic in Rosemead: 7. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Traffic Commission, the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting is set for March 1, 2007.
