AQUATICS
Summer Swim Lessons - Cycle four of our weekday (Monday–Thursday) swim lessons will be ending
today, Thursday, July 31. Cycle five is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 4, and will run through
Thursday, August 14. Cycle five will only include evening swim lessons as most participants return to
back to school. We are consistently seeing great progress in our participants, and it’s been rewarding to
watch their development throughout the summer.
Recreation Swim Hours - As summer comes to a close, the Rosemead Aquatic Center will be adjusting
its recreation swim hours. The last weekend recreation swim will be Sunday, August 17. Starting on
Tuesday, August 19. From August 19, recreation will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 pm
to 8:30 pm, concluding on Thursday, August 28. Additionally, the Splash Zone will remain open on
weekends from August 23 through September 21, with operating hours from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Aquatic Events - On July 10, the Rosemead Aquatic Center hosted the Annual Shark Week Celebration.
The event was a great success, with 410 people in attendance. Families enjoyed an evening filled with
games, arts and crafts, recreational swim, and a poolside screening of Luca. On Thursday, July 24, the
aquatics team hosted "Christmas in July". Which consisted of a fun-filled evening featuring themed
games, arts and crafts, recreational swim, and featured Moana 2. Doors opened at 6:00 pm. Activities
will ran from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, the movie started at Dusk.
FACILITIES/PARKS
Senior Craft Class - Engaging the Garvey center’s senior craft class offers a treasure trove of benefits for
seniors. These activities keep minds sharp by stimulating memory, focus, and problem-solving skills.
Crafting can also improve dexterity and fine motor skills, while foster a sense of accomplishment and
boosts self-esteem. On Monday, July 15, each participant in the class made a painted and hand
decorated and painted a patriotic star hanging decoration. In total, twenty-five seniors took part in the
activity. The next class will be on Monday, August 11, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.

Artisan Workshop - Beat the Heat with Artisan Workshops at the Garvey Center! Escape the summer
heat and ignite your creativity at the Garvey Center's series of hands-on Artisan Workshops! These
workshops offer a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills in the comfort of air-conditioned spaces. It’s
a wonderful way to connect with your community and create something beautiful with your own hands.
The first workshop, featuring soap making, was held on June 25, and the next, focusing on decoupaged
coasters, is scheduled for July 30. Each workshop includes all necessary materials and is open to adults
aged 18 and older. Be sure to sign up soon, as space is limited to 20 participants per class!
Case Management Services - The City of Rosemead provides Senior Case Management Services through
YWCA San Gabriel Valley. These services are available to seniors aged 60 and older, as well as frail or
disabled adults between 18 and 59 years old.
The case management program aims to help seniors remain in their homes for as long as possible by
offering a wide range of support. Services include, but are not limited to:
• Access to services: Transportation, general case management, information, and aid.
• In-home services: Personal care, chores, and homemaker assistance.
• Community services: Referrals to legal assistance, mental health support, and adult day care
services.
Case management services are provided once a week on Tuesdays at the Garvey Center.
Senior Lunch Program - The Senior Lunch Program has been a staple in the lives of seniors in the
Rosemead community. The program supplies nutritious prepared onsite meals to seniors who
participate in the program. Not only is the food delicious, but the program gives seniors an opportunity
to socialize and make new friends. The program is offered Monday through Friday, from 11:00am to
12:30pm at the Garvey Center. The program has maintained its attendance with an average attendance
of fifty (50) participants per day.
Senior Excursions - The City of Rosemead recently organized a memorable senior excursion to the Getty
Center on Thursday, July 10, offering participants the chance to experience its truly unique features.
Perched atop a hill in the Santa Monica Mountains, the Getty Center is renowned for its stunning
modern architecture designed by Richard Meier, which harmoniously integrates with the natural
landscape. Senior explored its extensive art collection, encompassing European paintings, drawings,
illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, and decorative arts from the Middle Ages to the present. The
seniors enjoyed a leisurely day surrounded by beauty and creativity. A total of forty-five (45) seniors
participated in the excursion.
The second excursion offered in the month, was on Wednesday, July 23, where the City of Rosemead
Seniors enjoyed a delightful outing to the Orange County Fair, experiencing its many unique features.
Beyond the classic rides and delicious fair food, the Orange County Fair stands out for its diverse
agricultural exhibits, showcasing local livestock and produce, and its engaging educational
demonstrations that offer a glimpse into the region's farming heritage. Attendees also reveled in the
vibrant live entertainment, from captivating concerts to thrilling stunt shows, and explored the bustling
marketplace filled with artisan crafts and local goods. The fair's commitment to offering a blend of

traditional fun and distinctive cultural experiences made for a truly memorable day for the Rosemead
Seniors. A total of twenty-nine (29) seniors participated in the excursion.
ADULT/YOUTH PROGRAMS AND SPORTS
Summer Camp Rosemead – Summer Camp Rosemead is heading into Week 7 of 9. The camp is for
children entering 1st through 8th grade. Campers participate in various theme arts & craft, games, and
outdoor play at Garvey Park Youth Center. Camp is held Monday through Friday from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm
between June 16 to August 15 and we have a total of 248 participants. Participants can also register for
our weekly excursion like Raging Waters, Knotts Berry Farm and more!
The Summer Lunch Program - The City of Rosemead is partnering up with the San Gabriel School District
to provide a Free Summer Lunch Program to kids 17 years and under from June 16 through August 8.
The lunch program is held at Rosemead Aquatic Center and Garvey Park Gym, Monday thru Friday,
starting at 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Summer Drop-in Recreation – Summer Drop-in programs will be held Monday through Friday at Garvey
Park and Rosemead Park from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Drop-In recreations is free for all participants entering 1st
through 8th grade, and activities include arts and crafts, outdoor play, and sports activities. Summer
drop-in schedule will begin on June 16 – August 15.
Youth Basketball League – Due to high demand and popularity of the program, Parks and Recreation
was able to secure a second gym and expand the league from 160 participants to a maximum of 320
participants. The Summer Youth Basketball League began on Monday, July 14 and games began on
Saturday, July 26. Practices are held Monday through Thursday at Garvey Intermediate and Temple
Intermediate Gym, and games are held at Garvey Park Gym and Garvey Intermediate Gym. We currently
have 30 teams and 294 participants registered.
Youth Tennis Camp – Johnny Allen Tennis hosted its first Summer Tennis Camp the week of June 16-19
at Garvey Park Tennis Courts. Camp was held Monday through Thursday from 9-12pm with a total of 10
participants. Johnny Allen Tennis will be hosting a second session the week of August 4. We currently
have 4 people registered for the camp.
Start Smart Sports – Summer Session of Start Smart Sports began the week of June 23 with Soccer on
Tuesday and Basketball on Thursday. Start Smart Sports is geared toward kids ages 3-5 years old, where
they work alongside with their parent and staff to learn the basic fundamental skills of the sport. Class is
held between 5:30-6:30pm at Garvey Park Gym. We have a total of 25 participants registered for the
class.
Adult Pickleball Tournament — The Adult Pickleball 1-day Tournament is sold out with 20 participants
registered! Tournament was hosted on Saturday, August 2 between 8-1pm at Garvey Park Tennis
Courts. Teams were randomly selected and played in a double elimination style tournament and the
tournament theme will be “Carni-ball”.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Art in the Park – On Wednesday, July 9, the Parks and Recreation department kicked off its first of 6
series of Art in the Park at Garvey Park. Families joined us in celebrating Parks Make Life Better theme
with painting wood letters to spell out Rosemead and to be displayed at various city facilities. Families
also put their creativity together with painting on canvas with their interpretation of why Parks Make
Life Better to take home. There was approximately 70 participants for the event.
• On Wednesday, July 16, Parks and Rec. kicked off our 2nd of 6 series of Art in the Park at
Rosemead Park. Families joined us in creating mosaic masterpieces using various rocks and
gems. We had approximately 50 participants for the event.
• On Wednesday, July 23, Parks and Rec. held our 3rd of 6 series of Art in the Park with Keep Calm
and Stamp On theme at Garvey Park. Families join us to learn how to create their own custom
stamp leather bracelets. We had approximately 80 participants for the event. Our next Art in the
Park event will be held on Wednesday, July 30 with Sew Much Fun theme where families will
learn to create artistic masterpieces using different types of fabric.
Movies in the Park – The Parks and Recreation Department has combined our Movies in the Park with
Art in the Park and added an extra movie this summer! Our first Movie in the Park was held Wednesday,
July 16 at Rosemead Park following our Art in the Park and is featuring “Mufasa”. Activities begin at 7pm
and movie starts at dusk. Our next movie will be on July 30 feat. Inside Out 2 and August 6 feat.
Despicable Me 4.
9/11 Remembrance Ceremony - This year marks the 24th Anniversary of the most tragic attacks against
America on United States soil. The City will once again host an in-person ceremony for invited guests
and members of the public. This year’s remembrance ceremony will take place on Thursday, September
11 at 6:00 pm. The ceremony will take place adjacent to the Rosemead’s September 11th Memorial in
the Civic Center Plaza.
Moon Festival - The Annual Moon Festival is set for Saturday, September 13, 2025. We are very excited
to be partnering with VOCO Media to host this year’s Moon Festival. The event is from 3:00 pm to 11:00
pm and will encompass a three block stretch of Valley Blvd from Walnut Grove Blvd to Ivar Ave. Event
producers have confirmed over 100 vendors. There will be an Opening Ceremony held at 5:00 pm at the
Main Stage (near Ivar Ave).
