Youth Committee Agenda - 09/10/09Public Comment from the Audience • If you wish to address the City Council, please complete a Speaker Request Card, as it must be handed to the City Clerk before the start of the meeting. • The City Council will hear public comments on matters not listed on the agenda during the Public Comments from the Audience period. • Opportunity to address the City Council (on non-agenda items) is limited to 3 minutes per speaker. • The City Council will hear public comments on items listed on the agenda during discussion of the matter and prior to a vote. Brown Act Pursuant to provisions of the Brown Act, no action may be taken on a matter unless it is listed on the agenda, or unless certain emergency or special circumstances exist. The City Council may direct staff to investigate and/or schedule certain matters for consideration at a future City Council meeting. Rules of Decorum Persons attending the meeting shall observe rules of propriety, decorum, good conduct, and refrain from impertinent or slanderous remarks. Violation of this rule shall result in such persons being barred from further audience before the governing body. Pursuant to Gov. Code Sect. 54954.3(c), any person who engages in unlawful interference shall be removed from chambers. PUBLIC COMMENT FROM THE AUDIENCE - 2. CONSENT CALENDAR A. Affirm Chairmanship and Vice Chairmanships During Committee Member Training in July, it was proposed that Committee Member Tuong serve as Committee Chair and Committee Member Chen as Vice Chair. Recommendation: That the AD HOC Youth Committee vote to affirm Roxanne Tuong as Committee Chair and David Chen as Vice Chair. B. Affirm Date of Regular AD HOC Youth Committee Meetings During Committee Member Training in July, it was proposed that AD HOC Youth Committee Meetings be conducted the second Wednesday of each month. Recommendation: That the AD HOC Youth Committee vote to designate second Wednesday of each month for conducting regular meetings. 2. MATTERS FROM STAFF A. Upcoming Events of Interest So Cal Teen Coalition's Rocktober: October 16, 6 to 10 p.m., Location: TBD City of Rosemead Halloween-Oktoberfest: October 24, 1 to 9:00 p.m., Rosemead Park 3. MATTERS FOR DISCUSSION-COMMITTEE MEMBERS A. Announcement of Future Events and Meetings on Campus Committee Member Quezada recommends that Committee Members announce future events and meetings during morning announcements at each of their respective schools. B. Rosemead and Garvey Pool to be open year round or extended period Committee Member Amezcua recommends discussion of year-round public swim at Rosemead and Garvey pools, and that additional special events be held at the pools. Lighted cross walk in front of Rosemead High School Committee Member Amezcua recommends discussion of a signaled crosswalk on Mission Drive (in front of Rosemead High School) to reduce the risk of pedestrians being struck by motor vehicles. D. Mural Wall It has been proposed that the Committee discuss a mural wall project to encourage community youth to express themselves artistically. E. Community Service Project/Event It has been proposed that the Committee discuss the creation of a community-wide youth service project/event to serve the community of Rosemead. 4.
