Public Works Department
Memorandum
TO: TRAFFIC COMMISSION
FROM: CHRIS MARCARELLO, DEPUTY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
DATE: OCTOBER 1, 2009
SUBJECT: PROJECT UPDATES
For your review, here is a brief summary of traffic projects that have either been
approved or will be approved by the City Council. Please let me know if you
have any questions regarding these items.
• UPDATED "COMING ATTRACTIONS"/AGENDA ITEMS LIST
Staff updated the list of upcoming Traffic Commission agenda items. If
you have any questions or would like to add an item to the list, please let
me know.
• NEIGHBORHOOD TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
Staff has been developing an outline and draft policy for a Neighborhood
Traffic Management Program. This Program will help develop standard
traffic calming devices and procedures for when they can be utilized. This
Program will also streamline processes for residents, staff, and the
Commission - reducing wait times for improvements and developing a
uniform process for addressing traffic improvements. It is anticipated that
a draft will be ready for review next month.
• FREEWAY OFFRAMP IMPROVEMENTS
Staff is currently working on plans and designs for landscaping
improvements at freeway off ramp areas. Once complete, these
improvements will help serve as a welcome entry point for residents and
visitors as they exit freeway areas and enter our City. We'll be sure to
keep you informed as plans progress!
• TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT - MARSHALLIBARTLETT
At the last Traffic Commission meeting, residents and Commissioners
expressed concerns regarding traffic conditions at Marshall/Bartlett. In
particular, individuals complained of rolling "California" stops and vehicle
speeding in this area. Shortly after the meeting, Public Safety Manager
Ray Rodriguez shared this information with LA County Sheriff Deputies.
Ray reports that over 19 citations were issued in a ten day period after the
initial report was made. Please see the attached email from Ray for more
information.
