FOR USED OIL RECYCLING BLOCK GRANT FOR MULTIPLE YEAR, MULTIPLE
GRANT APPLICATIONS TO THE CALIFORNIA INTEGRATED WASTE
MANAGEMENT BOARD
The California Integrated Waste Management Board has notified the City of the availability of
$19,708 under the Used Oil Recycling Block Grant. Funds may be used for local programs and
activities. To receive a block grant, an applicant must demonstrate that they already meet the
eligibility requirements, or will meet the requirements during the term of the agreement. The
eligibility requirements for funding are:
• The applicant's local used oil collection program includes a public education element that
informs the public of locally available used oil recycling opportunities; and
• The applicant's local used oil collection program provides used oil curbside collection for all
residents and/or ensures that at least one certified used oil collection center is available for
every 100,000 residents not served by curbside used oil collection.
The California Oil Recycling Enhancement Act provides funds to eligible cities and counties for
establishing and maintaining local used oil and oil filter collection programs that encourage recycling
or appropriated disposal of used oil and used oil filters. Annual funding for the grant is per capita
based.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve Resolution No. 00-12 and direct staff to submit
resolution and all necessary forms to the California Integrated Waste Management Board for funding
of local used oil and oil filter collection programs.
