AQUATICS
Swim Lessons - The Summer Swim Lesson Program continues to provide participants with opportunities
to develop their swimming skills, strengthen their understanding of water safety, and build confidence in
the water. Session Two concluded on Thursday, July 9. Session Three ran from Monday, July 13,
through Thursday, July 23. Session Four began on Monday, July 27, and will continue through Thursday,
August 6. The final session, which will offer afternoon classes only, is scheduled to begin on Monday,
August 10.
We are proud of the progress our swimmers have made throughout the summer and look forward to
welcoming participants for one final session of fun, learning, and safe experiences in the pool.
Recreation Swim - Recreation Swim is in full swing at the Rosemead Aquatic Center, with community
members enjoying the pool during scheduled recreation swim hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from
12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., as well as Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to
4:00 p.m.
At Splash Zone, Recreation Swim is offered Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and
Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., providing families with additional opportunities to
cool off and enjoy the summer. Splash Zone has also been a popular destination for weekend rentals,
hosting numerous birthday parties, family celebrations, and special gatherings. Demand continues to
remain strong, with one or more private rentals already scheduled each weekend throughout the month of
August.
We are thrilled to see so many residents and families taking advantage of our aquatic facilities this
summer. We look forward to welcoming even more swimmers and guests as we continue another exciting
and successful season at the Rosemead Aquatic Center and Splash Zone.

GARVEY CENTER
Senior Craft Class - The Garvey Center’s Senior Craft Class continues to inspire creativity, connection,
and fun among local seniors. Through engaging hands-on projects, participants enjoy activities that help

keep their minds active by improving memory, focus, and problem -solving skills, while also supporting
fine motor development. Most importantly, crafting encourages self-expression, builds confidence, and
gives participants a rewarding sense of accomplishment.
On Monday, July 13, class participants designed and decorated hanging inspiration boards. Using colorful
paint, markers, and decorative beads, each senior created a special piece that reflected their individual
style and creativity. The class was filled with laughter, conversation, and artistic energy as everyone
proudly showcased their finished projects. A total of 25 seniors participated in the class.
Senior Chair Exercise Class - The Garvey Center offers a senior chair aerobics class designed for older
adults. These classes combine gentle exercise with stress-reduction techniques and are led by the friendly
Garvey Cener staff. The Chair aerobics class is intended to keep seniors moving and improve their
flexibility and range of motion, all while seated in a chair for safety and comfort. These classes are perfect
for seniors looking for a way to stay active and improve their mental and physical health and beat the heat
this summer. The chair aerobics classes are held on Monday and Thursday 10:00 am to 10:45 am. The
class averages between 20 and 25 participants per class.
Senior Lunch Program - The Senior Lunch Program has been a staple in the lives of seniors in the
Rosemead community. The program supplies nutritious prepared onsite meals to seniors who participate
in the program. Not only is the food delicious, but the program gives seniors an opportunity to socialize
and make new friends. The program is offered Monday through Friday, from 11:00am to 12:30pm at the
Garvey Center. The program has maintained its attendance with an average attendance of Fifty (50)
participants per day.
Senior World Cup Social – The Senior World Cup Social brought the excitement of the World Cup to
life on Thursday, July 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Participants showed their team spirit by wearing
their favorite country's colors, jerseys, and fan gear as friends and fellow soccer enthusiasts came together
to enjoy the energy and camaraderie of the world's most popular sporting event.
The afternoon featured a delicious lunch that included fried chicken, mashed potatoes, vegetables and
cupcakes for dessert. The event also included exciting raffle prizes, lively dancing, and special
entertainment by Bobby Z. Whether attendees were longtime soccer fans or simply looking for a great
time with friends, the Senior World Cup Social provided an afternoon of fun, music, and community
celebration. A total of one-hundred thirty seniors participated in the event.
Senior Excursions - Agua Caliente Casino Resort – Thursday, July 9 - The Senior Excursion visited
Agua Caliente Casino Resort on Thursday, July 9. Departing from the Garvey Center at 8:30 a.m., seniors
enjoyed a relaxing day exploring the resort's 77,000 square feet of gaming, dining, and entertainment.
Whether they preferred slot machines, table games, or simply soaking in the lively atmosphere, there was
something for everyone. The excursion returned to the Garvey Center at approximately 5:30 p.m. The trip
involved a moderate level of walking, and a total of forty-five (45) seniors participated in the excursion.
Orange County Fair – Thursday, July 23 - The City of Rosemead senior excursion spent an exciting
day at the OC Fair, one of Southern California's most beloved annual traditions! They spent the day
exploring vibrant exhibits showcasing local agriculture, arts, crafts, and unique displays while enjoying
live entertainment, musical performances, and interactive demonstrations throughout the fairgrounds.
Seniors enjoyed the excitement of the carnival midway with thrilling rides and classic games, visit the
petting zoo to meet friendly farm animals, and browsed the many specialty vendors offering one-of-a-

kind merchandise. With countless attractions, entertainment, shopping, and delicious dining options, the
OC Fair offered a full day of fun for guests of all ages. The trip involved a moderate walking level and
had twenty-seven (27) seniors registered for the excursion.
ADULT/YOUTH PROGRAMS AND SPORTS
Summer Youth Basketball League – The youth basketball league kicked off its summer season with
practices beginning July 13 and games on July 25. We currently have 30 teams and 300 participants for
the league
Summer Camp Rosemead –. Summer Camp has completed a total of seven weeks. Camp will offer 2
more weeks and conclude on Friday, August 14. Each week is currently sold out with 30 participants
each week. Camp is held at Garvey Park Youth Center, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00
p.m. Lunch and snacks are included.
Summer Lunch Program – Our Free Summer Lunch program at Garvey Park and Rosemead Park will
be concluding on Friday, August 7 as San Gabriel School District will be switching gears to get ready for
the new school year. Kids ages 17 and under will have an opportunity to receive free Monday through
Friday until, Friday August 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Start Smart Sports – Session one (Soccer) and Session two (Basketball) of our Start Smart Sports series
concluded the week of July 20, with 44 participants total. Session three (Baseball) and Session four
(Volleyball) began the week of July 27. Parents will work alongside recreation staff each week to teach
kids ages 3-5 years old the fundamental skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. Class is held on Tuesdays or
Thursdays between 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Garvey Park Gym. We currently have 19 registered participants.
Adult Pickleball Tournament – Our evening Adult Pickleball Tournament was hosted on Saturday, July
18 and had a wonderful turn out with a full 32 participants registered. The tournament was held at Garvey
Park between 5:00 - 9:30 p.m. with a FIFA World Cup Theme. Our next tournament will be held on
Sunday, August 2 with a Luau theme.
Adult Basketball League – Our Summer Adult Basketball League began on Sunday, July 19 with 6
teams for the current season. Games are held on Sunday afternoons between 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at
Garvey Park Gym.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Art in the Park/Movies in the Park – The “Art in the Park” and “Movies in the Park” series has had an
amazing turnout with an average of 80 participants for Art in the Park and 140 participants for Movies in
the Park. Art in the Park is held on Wednesday evenings with the locations alternating between Rosemead
Park and Garvey Park. Here are the remaining weeks and themes!

Yappy Hour – The “New Yappy Hour” series has received a lot of positive feedback from the
community! There is an average of 50 dogs and owners that have joined us each Wednesday between
5:00 – 7:00 pm throughout the month of July at the Garvey Paws Dog Park. Attendees are able to enjoy
free treats, dog refreshments, raffle prizes and socialize! Some of the weekly themes included Puppy
Pool Party, Bark-B-Que Bash and Pawlympics! The series will conclude on Wednesday, August 12 with
a “Sit, Stay & Back to School” theme.
Summer Concerts - The City of Rosemead kicked off its Summer Concert Series on July 10 at the Jess
Gonzales Sports Complex with a lively performance by Califas the Band, whose si gnature blend of Latin,
rock, and oldies classics entertained a large crowd under the stars. The free community event was well
attended and featured more than just live music. Families enjoyed interactive inflatables, arts and crafts,
lawn games, food and information booths, and a 50/50 raffle. In celebration of this year's biggest
international soccer tournament, the event also incorporated World Cup-themed activities, adding to the
festive atmosphere.
The Summer Concert Series continued the following week with a performance by Chico, known for their
signature Latin soul classics. Residents once again gathered at the Jess Gonzales Sports Complex for an
evening of live entertainment and family-friendly activities. Guests were encouraged to bring blankets,
lawn chairs, and friends to enjoy the concert, along with food and information booths, a 50/50 raffle, and
fun activities for children. The concert took place on Friday, July 17, from 7:0 0 to 9:00 p.m., continuing
the City's tradition of bringing the community together through music and summer fun
On Friday, July 24, the City of Rosemead celebrated Parks Make Life Better! Month with a special
concert and community event at the Jess Gonzalez Sports Complex. Activities began at 5:00 p.m. and
included arts and crafts, interactive inflatable games, a Hot Wheels racetrack, a photo booth, food and
information booths, a 50/50 raffle, giveaways, and more. Entertainment started at 6:20 p.m. with family-
friendly magician Artie Loon, whose fun-filled magic show delighted the audience. The evening
concluded with an exciting 80's vs. 90's concert, an interactive live music experience featuring popular
hits from two unforgettable decades. With musicians representing each era, costume changes, nostalgic
favorites, and audience participation, the show let the crowd decide which decade had the best music.
This year’s Parks Make Life Better event was fun for the entire family.
The next three concerts will take place at Rosemead Park starting on Friday, July 31 with an Abba Tribute
Band. The concert on Friday, August 7 will feature a Stone Soul, which are known for their Motown and
classic soul sounds. The concert series will end on Friday, August 14 with the Latin Soul Band who will
be playing old school rock and funk. This concert will also celebrate the City’s 67th Birthday with
special activities and give aways.
National Night Out – National Night out will take place at Rosemead Park on Friday, August 7 in
partnership with the summer concert. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. with vendors, food, a free
backpack giveaway, and activities. Our own Park Rangers are excited to host a booth and have an
opportunity to engage with the community! Stop by for free giveaways and craft activities.
Shark Week Celebration - Families had a "sharkmazing" time celebrating Shark Week at the Rosemead
Aquatic Center! Guests enjoyed an evening filled with family-friendly games, activities, swimming, and a
special outdoor showing of Surf's Up. The pool opened at 6:30 p.m., giving attendees plenty of time to
cool off, enjoy the festivities, and spend time with family and friends before the movie began around 8:10
p.m. As the sun set, participants relaxed in the pool while watching Surf's Up, creating a unique and

memorable movie night experience. The film concluded at approximately 9:45 p.m., wrapping up a fun-
filled evening of summer entertainment.
Dive in Movie - The Aquatics division hosted Christmas in July, which will took place at the Rosemead
Aquatic Center on Thursday, July 23. The event began at 6:30 p.m., with Christmas-themed games and
activities available through 8:30 p.m. As the sun set, guests enjoyed a poolside showing of Frozen,
beginning at dusk. This festive event consisted of an evening of swimming, holiday-themed fun, and
family-friendly entertainment for the community. Families and friends enjoyed a memorable Christmas
celebration in the middle of summer!
Kids Night Out – Our annual end of the summer Kids Night Out Splash Bash Finale will be held on
Friday, August 14 at the Splash Zone Aquatic Center. Participants ages 6-14 years old will enjoy, arts &
crafts, games, dinner and access to pool amenities. The event will be held from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
9/11 Remembrance Ceremony - This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the most tragic attacks against
America on United States soil. The City will once again host an in-person ceremony for invited guests
and members of the public. This year’s remembrance ceremony will take place on Friday, September 11
at 6:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place adjacent to the Rosemead’s September 11th Memorial in the
Civic Center Plaza.
Moon Festival - The Annual Moon Festival is set for Saturday, September 12, 2026. We are very
excited to be partnering with VOCO Media to host this year’s Moon Festival. The event is from 2:30 to
11:00 p.m. and will encompass a three block stretch of Valley Blvd from Walnut Grove Blvd to Ivar Ave.
Event producers have confirmed over 100 vendors. There will be an Opening Ceremony held at 5:00
p.m. at the Main Stage (near Ivar Ave).
MISCELLANEOUS
Special Olympics - The Parks and Recreation Department is proud to recognize two outstanding athletes ,
Michael Menchaca & Yvette Espinoza who represented the City of Rosemead at the Special Olympics
SELA Whittier Bowling Competition on Saturday, July 25, in the City of Downey. We are excited to
congratulate our athletes on their impressive performances, earning 5th and 8th place in their respective
divisions. Their dedication and positive attitude make our community proud, and we celebrate their
achievements both on and off the lanes.
Garden Camp – The City of Rosemead and CultivaLA are excited to kick off this year's Kids Gardening
Camp, a hands-on educational program designed for children ages 4 to 11 and their parent or guardian.
The four-week series offers families an opportunity to explore nature, gardening, healthy living, and
environmental education through engaging, interactive activities at the City's community gardens. The
program is offered from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. each Saturday, and registration is required as space is
limited. Through fun, hands-on learning experiences, participants will discover the importance of
gardening, healthy eating, environmental stewardship, and caring for our local ecosystems while creating
lasting family memories. Residents are encouraged to register early, as enrollment is expected to fill
quickly.

E-Sports Tournament - Recreation Staff is excited to host our quarterly E-Sports Tournament featuring
Mario Kart! Each participant will select their favorite character and participate in a double elimination
tournament for a chance to win a $50 gift card to Game Stop. Dinner and snacks will be provided for the
participants. This event is sold out with 20 participants registered.
