Attached for your consideration is information regarding the aforementioned conference.
Usually there are two Institutes, one in January and one in April. This year they are combined
into one meeting. This conference serves as a useful learning tool for new and experienced
Council Members.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the attendance of any Council Member, and
staff as assigned by the City Manager.

About the Academy
if The Mayors and Council Members Academy curriculum is designed to provide you with a solid understanding of the
key subjects needed to be an effective and successful mayor or council member, thereby preparing you to better serve
your city and constituents. The Academy has three levels: Basic Leadership, Advanced Leadership, and Leadership in
Action. Completion of this Basic Leadership conference fulfills the requirements for graduation at this first level.
The Academy functions on the honor system. A registered participant in the Academy presumes one has
participated in the educational programs claimed. More information on the Academy will be available at this

To protect your chances of getting a reservation at the meeting hotel for this meeting, you must be
registered in order to make a hotel reservation. All reservation requests for rooms in the League block
must be sent to the League. The hotel will not process registrations sent directly to the hotels. They will be
returned to the League for verification resulting in a delay that may cause you not to get a reservation at
the hotel in the block at the League rate. Please complete the hotel portion of the registration form and
return it with your registration for the Leadership Academy for fastest processing. The hotel will confirm
