CC - Item 3C - 93-15 - Resolution opposing the construction of card casino in Monterey Park - Internal Files Box 069RESOLUTION NO. 93-15
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD OPPOSING THE
CONSTRUCTION OF A CARD CASINO IN THE
CITY OF MONTEREY PARK
WHEREAS, a Los Angeles developer is proposing to build a "Family
Entertainment Center/Card Casino" within the corporate boundaries of
the City of Monterey Park; and
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City Council of the City of
Rosemead that the creation of similar card clubs in Los Angeles
County have resulted in an increase of gang-related turf wars, loan
sharking, money laundering, vandalism, and other illegal activities;
and
WHEREAS, it is likely that such activities will serve to tarnish
the image of the City of Monterey Park and surrounding communities,
thus leading to a reduction of property values and an inability to
attract quality businesses to the area; and
WHEREAS, it is the view of the City Council and the City of
Rosemead that this issue may cause division and disharmony among the
residents of the communities of Monterey Park and Rosemead; and
WHEREAS, the additional traffic generated from a
fully-operational card casino would overburden an already stressed
traffic control system in our area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Rosemead opposes the efforts of the developer seeking to build a
card casino within the neighboring community of Monterey Park under
the guise of a "Family Entertainment Center."
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 9th day of March, 1993.
