2. AUTHORIZE PAYMENT TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON FOR
DESIGN AND RIGHT-OF-WAY ACQUISITION SERVICE FOR UTILITY
UNDERGROUND
MOTION BY AGENCYMEMBER BRUESCH, SECOND BY AGENCYMEMBER
VASQUEZ that the Agency authorize payment of invoices in the amount of $144,166.89 and an
engineering advance in the amount of $105,000 (for Walnut Grove and San Gabriel Boulevard
only) to Southern California Edison. Before vote could result, more discussion ensued.
Agencymember Bruesch asked if the undergrounding includes the high tension wires.
Mr. Bruesch asked what precautions have been taken with regard to earthquakes.
Wally Zimmerman, Planning Supervisor in charge of engineering for the transmission
organization for SCE, explained that last large earthquake in the Rosemead area did not
adversely affect any of the underground utilities. The installation of undergounding meets, and
in most cases, exceeds requirements. Mr. Zimmerman stressed that safety is paramount and all
undergrounding is designed in conformance to that.
Agencymember Bruesch asked if the high tension wires along San Gabriel Boulevard
would be underground and that the wires crossing Del Mar Boulevard would be above ground.
Mr. Zimmerman responded affirmative and that there are transmission corridors with
major switching centers, such as the one at Del Mar, and that it would be too costly to
underground them.
Agencymember Bruesch called for the question. Vote resulted:
Aye:
Bruesch, Vasquez, Clark
No:
None
Absent:

None
The Mayor declared said motion duly carried and so ordered.
