A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD CALLING FOR STATE INCLUSION
OF THE 710 FREEWAY GAP CLOSURE PROJECT IN THE
GOVERNOR'S TRANSPORTATION BOND PROPOSAL
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead strongly supports the expansion and improvement of the Southern
California transportation network which, despite important improvements, remains
overwhelmed by the majority of regional trips; and
WHEREAS, the City is aware of the Governor's I0-year Growth Program and Infrastructure Bond
Program, including the proposal to place two $6 billion transportation bonds before the
voters of Califomia within the next 10 years; and
WHEREAS, the City is aware of similar transportation bond proposals in the State Legislature; and
WHEREAS, the City is aware that one or more of these proposed transportation bond programs
includes funding for the 1-710 transportation corridor south of State Route 60; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes the role of the federal and state government to expand and improve
the 1-710 transportation corridor south of State Route 60 to more efficiently move
national goods in and out of the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach; and
WHEREAS, all regional transportation agencies have identified the 710 Freeway Gap Closure Project
north of State Route 60 as a critical missing link in the basic Southern California highway
network that would deliver nationally and regionally significant highway and arterial
street congestion relief; and
WHEREAS, the City is aware of prior approved versions of the 710 Freeway Gap Closure Project as
well as a recent study to underground significant portions of the Project; and
WHEREAS, the City believes closure of the 710 Freeway Gap is an indispensable component of any
effort to expand and efficiently move national goods through the 1-710 corridor to and
from the ports.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rosemead hereby calls
upon the Governor and the State Legislature, in order to secure the tremendous national and regional
transportation benefits, to commit a significant local match in the state bonds for the construction cost to
complete the 710 Freeway Gap Closure Project as part of any included improvement of the 1-710 goods
movement corridor.
