ORDINANCE NO. 587
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ROSEMEAD INCREASING THE TRANSIENT
- OCCUPANCY TAX
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD ORDAINS AS
FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. Section 6602 of the Rosemead Municipal Code
is amended to read as follows:
"Tax Imposed. For the privilege of occupancy
in any motel, hotel, each transient is subject to
and shall pay a tax in the amount of eight percent
(8%) of the rent charged by the operator. Said tax
constitutes a debt owed by the transient to the City
which is extinguished only by payment to the operator
or to the City. The transient shall pay the tax to
operator of the motel or hotel at the time the rent
is paid. If the rent is paid in installments, a pro-
portionate share of the tax shall be paid with each
installment. The unpaid tax shall be due upon the
transient's ceasing to occupy space in the motel or
hotel. If for any reason the tax due is not paid to
the operator of the motel or hotel, the Tax Administra-
tor may require that such tax shall be paid directly
to the Tax Administrator."
SECTION 2. If the City of Rosemead and the Rosemead
Building Trust Fund, an affiliate of the Rosemead Chamber
of Commerce, agree on terms and conditions regarding the
construction and operation of the Rosemead Visitor's Center,
then the Finance Officer shall earmark twenty-five percent
(25%) of the total funds collected hereunder for such project
for a period of four (4) years from the effective date hereof.
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall become effective September
1, 1986.
