Memorandum

FROM: CHRIS MARCARELLO, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
DATE: AUGUST 25, 2010
SUBJECT: DESIGNATED CITY TRUCK ROUTES
As you are aware, the City's Municipal Code Section 10.08, describes designated
truck routes on Rosemead streets. The provisions of this code are enforced by
representatives of the City's Public Safety Department (including Sheriff Deputies
and City Staff). In order for the code to remain enforceable, I have been advised
that a full study of a truck route must occur prior to removing it from the list of
designated streets.
This includes:
1. Conduct a review of street and identify specific reasons for removal. This
effort would necessitate a study of truck routes (including field observations,
traffic counts, and a review of other street characteristics). ,Additionally,
since many areas of the City abut County areas and neighboring local
jurisdictions, this will need to be coordinated with other agencies.
2. Develop an analysis of the review and present findings to the Traffic
Commission and City Council.
3. City Council consideration of analysis and municipal code amendment.
With recent budget reductions, I do not have discretionary budget funds available
this fiscal year to conduct such a study. If this is a priority, we would need to
obtain a budget appropriation from the City Council or plan to discuss such a study
next fiscal year.
If you have questions, please let me know. Thank you.
