SUBJECT: PRIORITIES FOR LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY FIRM
SUMMARY
The City Council has asked to review the priorities of the City's legislative advocacy
firm, Gonsalves and Sons, and memorialize the priority list through formal adoption.
The list of priorities will be updated regularly by both staff and the lobbyist and provided
to the Council through the weekly update.
Staff recommendation
Staff recommends that City Council approve the priority list for the City's lobbyist.
BACKGROUND /ANALYSIS
During the September 28, 2010 Council meeting it was requested that staff
provide a document which would document the direction provided to Gonsalves in terms
of their lobbying efforts and the Council's direction. Include below is the proposed list of
priority items based upon the workshop that took place on July 2, 2010. This list is not
intended to prohibit Gonsalves from speaking on other issues on the City's behalf, but is
intended to provide a list of the highest priority items.
1. Suspension of AB32 and SB375 implementation regulations.
2. Support for City's grant application to the State of California for construction of
the Garvey Aquatic Center.
3. Opposition to any High Speed Rail alignment along the 1 -10 Freeway that would
directly or indirectly impede on properties in Rosemead, which would include
aerial, north side, and /or south side of the 1 -10 Freeway.
4. Extension of Redevelopment Project Areas terms (Rosemead's Project Area 1 is
set to expire in 2013).
5. Support for the SR -60 Metro Goldline Eastside Extension project.
