SUBJECT: ASSEMBLYMEMBER MIKE ENG -- FORMATION OF HIGH -SPEED RAIL
WORKING GROUP
SUMMARY
The City Council will consider the appointment of one of its Members to serve on a local High -
Speed Rail Working Group being formed by Assemblymember Mike Eng. The Working Group
will be formed as soon as possible to meet on a quarterly basis.
Staff Recommendation:
That the City Council select one of its Members to serve on Assemblymember Mike Eng's High -
Speed Rail Working Group.
BACKGROUNDIANALYSIS
The Office of Assemblymember Mike Eng has advised that it will form a High -Speed Rail
Working Group made up of representatives from seven cities: Alhambra, El Monte, South El
Monte, Rosemead, Monterey Park, San Gabriel, and San Marino. The Working Group will be
comprised of one city council member from each of the cities. A staff member from each of the
cities will also assist their respective council members in the Working Group.
Assemblymember Eng serves on the State Legislature's Select Committee on High -Speed Rail
for California. The stated purpose of the Working Group to be formed by the Assemblyman will
be to receive information, discuss High -Speed Rail issues, and ensure that accurate information
trickles down to the appropriate channels to eliminate misinformation and confusion on this
topic.
Several months ago, the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (COG) also formed a
High -Speed Rail Working Group. Council Members Sandra Armenta and Margaret Clark
currently serve on that Working Group.
