CC - Item 3B - Finance Department Travel RequestE nj R , A , C TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: JEFF ALLRED, CITY MANAGE DATE: MARCH 9, 2011 SUBJECT: FINANCE DEPARTMENT TRAVEL REQUEST SUMMARY It is important for Finance Department staff to receive continuing professional education and to stay abreast of current rules, practices and requirements of government finance management. The primary source of that training is through attendance at the Government Finance Officer's Association (GFOA) annual conference. Staff Recommendation Staff recommends that the City Council approve attendance at the GFOA Annual Conference by the Director of Finance and the Finance Manager. ANALYSIS The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) annual conference is scheduled from May 22 "d through May 25 in San Antonio, Texas. It is important to keep current with requirements of ever changing government finance; the conference is the most comprehensive source of continuing professional education in government finance with specific classes in the following broad categories: 1. Accounting, auditing and financial reporting 2. Budgeting and financial planning 3. Debt management 4. Treasury and investing management APPROVED FOR CITY COUNCIL AGENDA: ITEM NUMBER: �.
