A. REQUEST TO INSTALL PARKING RESTRICTIONS AT MARSHALL STREET/EARLE AVENUE SUMMARY In May, the Traffic Commission approved a request to install parking restrictions at the intersection
of Marshall Street and Earle Avenue (northwest corner of intersection). At this meeting, the Commission asked staff to evaluate the need for additional parking restrictions at the other
corners of the intersection. Notification cards have been delivered to residents in the vicinity regarding the proposed improvements and the Commission’s June meeting discussing this
request. Staff Recommendation It is recommended that the Traffic Commission recommend to the City Council that approximately 20 feet of red curbing be installed at each corner of the
intersection of Earle Avenue and Marshall Street. B. FEDERAL SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOLS FUNDING PROGRAM – CYCLE 3 Fiscal YEAR 2011/12 SUMMARY The purpose of the Federal Safe Routes to School
(SRTS) is to increase the number of children who walk or bicycle to school by funding projects that remove the barriers that currently prevent them from doing so. Those barriers include
lack of infrastructure, unsafe infrastructure, lack of programs that promote walking and bicycling through education/encouragement programs aimed at children, parents, and the community.
Staff is working on a grant application for the vicinity of Emma W. Shuey and Mildred B. Janson Elementary Schools in northwest Rosemead and is requesting input and support from the
Traffic Commission. Staff Recommendation Staff recommends that the Traffic Commission: 1. Provide input on proposed pedestrian/traffic safety measures to be included in the SRTS grant
application; and and 2. Authorize the Traffic Commission Chair to sign a letter of support for the grant application on behalf of the entire Commission. 5. STAFF REPORTS 6. COMMISSIONER
