Earthquake Preparedness Month
April 2012
WHEREAS, Earthquake Preparedness Month encourages Americans to prepare for
disasters; and
WHEREAS, It is anticipated that a catastrophic earthquake in the San Gabriel Valley
region would contribute to the destruction of life and property, as well
as malting usual services such as electricity, running water, refrigeration,
and telephones, unavailable for long periods of time; and
WHEREAS, By taping appropriate preparedness measures to be self - sufficient together
we can reduce the effects that a disaster may have on families and
businesses and help speed up the recovery process; and
WHEREAS, The City of Rosemead is taking action to prepare for a disaster and
educating community that they have an important role in ensuring their
safety and survival during and after an emergency; and
WHEREAS, The City is providing the community with an opportunity between April
2012 to April 2013, to participate in the Get Ready Rosemead challenge
that encourages them to be self - sufficient for at least 5 -7 days; and
WHEREAS, Emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility and through the Get
Ready Rosemead challenge as a community, we can reduce the effects of a
disaster and increase the chances of survival.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Rosemead City Council does
hereby proclaim April 2012 as "Earthquake Preparedness Month" in the City of Rosemead
and encourages those who live, work, or attend school in Rosemead to participate in the
Get Ready Rosemead challenge which will enable them to be self - sufficient for a
minimum of 5 -7 days.
