ROSEMEAD TRAFFIC COMMISSION
STAFF REPORT
TO: TRAFFIC COMMISSION
FROM: CHRIS MARCARELLO, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTORC
DATE: JULY 10, 2012
SUBJECT: RESIDENT CONCERNS REGARDING TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AT
MARSHALL STREET/W GROVE AVENUE
SUMMARY
At a recent City Council meeting, a Rosemead resident, Velia Navarro, expressed concerns
regarding traffic conditions in the vicinity of Marshall Street and Walnut Grove Avenue. At
this meeting, Ms. Navarro was encouraged to attend an upcoming Traffic Commission
meeting to relay her concerns. Ms. Navarro expressed concerns regarding vehicle
speeding, high pedestrian traffic, and traffic congestion. Prior to initiating a full review and
traffic study of this location, staff is interested in discussing this issue with the Commission
to determine if additional improvements are needed.
It should be noted that the City was successful in a grant application for over $700,000 to
complete traffic improvements, including a new raised median, signage, and striping
improvements along Walnut Grove Avenue from Marshall Street to Valley Boulevard.
These improvements are included in the City's 2013 capital improvement program budget.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Traffic Commission provide further direction related to traffic
conditions at Marshall Street/Walnut Grove Avenue.
