challenge to get their family to become self-sufficient. Residents are urged to build a family preparedness kit over the course of twelve months. The challenge runs from April 2012 to
April 2013. Employees of local businesses are encouraged to build an emergency preparedness backpack through a six month challenge. During the challenges, participants are encouraged
to engage one another through social media—the City has already created a Facebook events page for the challenge. Those who complete monthly challenges are eligible to participate in
monthly drawings. Residents who complete the challenge will be entered into a drawing for a portable generator. Employees will be eligible to win a back pack kit. Participants interested

at the next CONNECTIONS meeting. Mandy shared that the Youth Summit will be held Saturday, February 25 from 8-1:30 at Garvey Intermediate School. Probation Officer Gutierrez and Deputy
Farley will present a session on “Cyberbullying and Sexting,” and Mandy will present a session on “Youth Emergency Preparedness.” 7. PUBLIC COMMENT Larry Cecil mentioned that Rosemead
High School continues its work on the auditorium at Rosemead High School, but that it is anticipated that it will become the Vicki Carr Performing Arts Center—in honor of RHS alumnus
Vicki Carr. The aim is to create a community fine arts program including theater, music, and other city-wide arts efforts. Art Landing provided information about a youth employment program
for high school seniors provided by WorkSource Career Partners. The program is designed to provide work experience and build leadership skills. WorkSource is currently accepting application
from youth graduating in June 2012 or sooner and who reside in Rosemead, San Gabriel, Temple City, Alhambra, Monterey Park, or Montebello. For more information, contact Jessica Hoa at
(626) 572-7272, ext. 1207. Steve Rivera shared about Evergreen Baptist Church’s participation in the Family Promise Program. The regional program is designed to help the homeless with
housing and employment needs. Thirteen area churches collaborate in the program. In addition, he said the church’s hosted a Graffiti Gallery where people can preview graffiti art. The
program is aimed at providing tagger a legal alternative to artistically express themselves through their work. They have hosted three shows thus far. Sergio Medrano agreed that the
Graffiti Gallery is a great way for taggers to express their art. He said that he is aware of one city’s provision of designated graffiti walls where taggers can tag without fear of
reprisal. He indicated that a similar concept might be a consideration in Rosemead. Young Baek from AADAP shared that their headquarters is in Los Angeles but they have partner with
Evergreen Baptist Church to provide drug treatment in Rosemead. Treatment is by appointment only and individual counseling session and family intervention session are provided. There
are no age limits for this service. To better focus on the CONNECTIONS mission, Mandy suggested that CONNECTIONS consider involvement in the City’s Monthly Safety Meeting on May 17.
The discussion is on “Drug Awareness.” The experience and information available through CONNECTIONS will be a great resource for meeting participants. Mandy said she will put that on
the agenda item for the next CONNECTIONS meeting. Mandy reminded everyone to stop by the 3rd Annual Yard Sale and Community Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, March 3, from 7:30
a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Edison parking lot at 2255 Walnut Grove. Jane Chavez from Pregnancy Help Center of San Gabriel indicated that she will be a member of
