The three-fold mission of Public Safety CONNECTIONS is to: Serve as a community “think tank” and “information clearinghouse” to prevent crime and combat the impacts alcohol and drug
abuse in Rosemead. Assist in the effort to educate young people about the adverse effects of alcohol and drugs on their safety, quality of life, and future opportunities. Increase awareness
of parents, grandparents and other caregivers of their responsibilities to help young people to avoid the negative consequences associated with alcohol and drug use. MINUTES CALL TO

There was a motion by Art Landing and a second by Ron Esquivel to approve the Public Safety CONNECTIONS Forum April 26, 2012 minutes. Minutes were unanimously approved. 3. DRUG AWARENESS
WORKSHOP ON THURSDAY, JUNE 7TH AT ROSEMEAD HIGH SCHOOL Mandy Wong shared sub-committee; S.C.O.P.E. has been working to finalize the program for the drug workshop scheduled for June 7th
at Rosemead High School. Members were given a draft of the program. The program includes the timeline of the workshop, room numbers for the breakout sessions and childcare. Exhibitors
and CONNECTIONS members were also included on the program. Discussion followed with suggested corrections. Larry Cecil stated that he will invite all the detention students and will
give them extra hours for attending the workshop. 4. MAY 2012 SIGNIFICANT LAW ENFORCEMENT INCIDENTS Lt. Murakami was not able to attend the CONNECTIONS Forum meeting. Sgt. Moreno, therefore,
provided the scheduled update as follows: • The special assignment deputies have been doing probation checks, parole checks and drugs enforcement. • During a motel compliance operation,
six people were arrested for possession of narcotics at two motels in Rosemead. • There was an arrest made for a copper wire theft. The suspect was a narcotics user. • There is a slight
increase in auto theft, which can be attributed to parole and probationers current out on the streets. Discussion followed the update. 5. PEDESTRIAN SAFETY VIDEO David Montgomery-Scott
shared that the City of Rosemead received a mini grant from the California Department of Public Health as part of its pedestrian and driver safety campaign. The funds were used to create
a safety video. The purpose in developing the video is to reach as many Rosemead schoolaged children as possible. Copies of the video are being provided to CONNECTIONS members to share
with students and drivers affiliated with participating organizations. 6. SEVEN HABITS UPDATE Jeff shared that he along with David and Mandy met with staff from Panda Corporation regarding
training of for the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. The cost of the training is very expensive and

2 the Rosemead School District is hosting a training “Seven Habits for Happy Families” on how to Communicate Effectively and that there may be a few seats available. 7. STATE OF THE
CITY ADDRESS LUNCHEON Mayor Sandra Armenta will be presenting Rosemead’s State of the City Address at a luncheon hosted by the City of Rosemead and the Rosemead Chamber of Commerce.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 6, at 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., at the Garvey Community Center, 9108 Garvey Avenue. Tickets are $15 for residents and $20 for individual/non-residents
and cost includes a lunch. At the luncheon, Mayor Armenta will provide a pictorial tour of the many recent improvements to our community and a look at projects that are being planned
in accordance with Rosemead’s 2012-2013 Strategic Plan. In addition, she will share some of the challenges the City will be face. 8. PUBLIC COMMENT Mandy mentioned Relay for Life is
scheduled for Saturday/Sunday, June 9-10. Rosemead Team Captain is Jeff Allred and we are in need of walkers. It’s a 24 hour event to help raise funds for cancer research. If you like
to walk and/or donate please email Mandy at mwong@cityofrosemead.org. Art Landing shared details regarding Temple Intermediate’s performance of “Music Man” on June 1 and 2. Wenli Jen
shared details of their upcoming program called Life Skills for 6-8 grades students. The program starts in July. For more information contact Wenli at Asian Pacific Family Center. David
shared both pools are open during the summer months starting June 23. Rental of the pool is also available. Swim lessons start July 9. The lessons are $35.00 per person for two weeks,

Sanbory thanked Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies for being proactive in cleaning up the numerous gangs in the area and for the code enforcement cleanup effort on Garvey Avenue.
He also thanked Code Enforcement Officers for assisting with the effort. Mr. Sanbory attributes Rosemead’s success to Lt. Murakami. Larry Cecil added that the School Resource Officer
has helped in reducing the gangs at Rosemead High School, particularly, the Asian gangs. Miguel Flores wants to thank Rosemead Parks and Recreation for providing afterschool coaching
and tutoring opportunities for Don Bosco students. Bosco students have enjoyed the opportunities and are looking forward to the continued partnership. 9. ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned
