Recommendation: Direction is requested. BACKGROUND At its meeting of October 9, 2012, the City Council received a lengthy presentation from Metro representatives relative to the environmental review process currently in process for extension of the 710 Freeway. The City Council discussed the matter at some length and directed the preparation of a Resolution in support of completion of the 710 Freeway for the October 23, 2012 meeting agenda. Members of the City Council have cited unacceptable traffic congestion in Rosemead and neighboring west San Gabriel Valley cities due a lack of adequate north -south vehicular routes through the west San Gabriel Valley. This condition places an undue burden of traffic congestion on Rosemead's north -south arterial streets particularly on Rosemead Boulevard, Walnut Grove Avenue, San Gabriel Boulevard and Del Mar Avenue. To alleviate the unacceptable burden of traffic congestion in Rosemead and surrounding communities, members of the Rosemead City Council have identified completion of the Interstate 710 Freeway as a high priority. The attached Resolution has been prepared in concert with neighboring cities who have taken similar actions, including Alhambra and San Marino. Attachment ITEM N ®s ®
