2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Committee Member Robert Bruesch made a motion, seconded by Committee Member Tracy Loa to
approve the Minutes of January 14, 2013. Vote resulted in:
Yes: Bruesch, Loa, Montgomery-Scott
No: None

Absent: Armenta, Camonte
3. REVIEW OF MURAL CONCEPTS
Committee Member Montgomery Scott— stated that a draft of the mural was present at the City's Lunar
New Year Festival and comment cards were collected. He explained that a copy of these comment cards will
be included with the minutes for the next meeting. He then inquired about the focus of the mural, whether it
should be regional or solely Rosemead. Mr. Montgomery-Scott then stated that the Savannah Cemetery tells
the regional tale, therefore the mural should be limited to Rosemead since the purpose is not to replicate. (A
copy of the comment cards is included at the end of the Minutes)
Committee Member Bruesch — agreed but stated his desire to include elements that show the significance
of the area to regional history such as haciendas, grapevines, and Rosemead Ranch (horse farm).

Committee Member Montgomery Scott— stated that the grapevine being used as a picture frame for
Leonard Rose was suggested at the previous meeting and will be incorporated into the mural. He then
warned of possible space limitations.
Committee Member Loa — inquired if the seal could be larger or if there could be an explanation of it. She
then stated that if the aforementioned elements were added, she agreed with the mural's focus on the City.
Committee Member Montgomery-Scott— commented that the Historical Sketchbook might provide
Committee Members with additional ideas for the mural as well, but again warned of space issues.
Committee Member Bruesch — mentioned Leonard Rose's son and his impressionist painting skills. He
explained that the City is in possession of one of his paintings which was appraised 20 years ago at $80,000.
Committee Member Armenta arrived to the meeting at 5:54 pm.
Committee Member Bruesch — inquired if Committee Member Armenta was aware of the painting and
where it was located. He then stated that the previous location was the Dinsmoor House.
Committee Member Armenta — stated that she knew of the painting and suggested asking Julie Gentry
Committee Member Bruesch — explained that its worth might be in the vicinity of $100,000 nowadays.
Committee Member Montgomery- Scott — stated that efforts would be made to find the location. He then
paraphrased the meeting notes thus far for Committee Member Armenia.
Committee Member Bruesch — described Leonard Rose's achievements in the Californian wine industry. He
stated that had it not been for his travelling and selling his own wine, there would not be a tabletop wine
business in the state.
4. FUNDRAISING EFFORTS
Committee Member Armenta — stated that the donation jar was present at the Lunar New Year Festival, and
$5 was donated.
Committee Member Montgomery-Scott — suggested settling on a couple of fundraising ideas in order to get
started on them and stated that the donation jar will be present at all City events.
Committee MemberArmenta — suggested adding logos on the donation jar of the City seal, the Moose
Lodge, and the Cemetery in order to grab the attention of individuals and inquired if we had pictures of each
Committee Member Montgomery-Scott— stated it was a good idea since it would indicate the partnership
between the three.

Committee Member Bruesch — stated that the Moose Lodge did have a logo.
Committee Member Loa — stated that she has a copy of the Cemetery logo and will email it.
Committee Member Montgomery-Scott- suggested taking site photos and including them with the concept
at future events in order to let residents know where the mural would be located.
Committee MemberArmenta — declared that she will get in touch with the Moose Lodge in order to start the
preparations for the fundraising dinner.
Committee Member Bruesch — inquired about an estimated amount for the mural
Committee Member Montgomery-Scott— stated that the artist would not be able to give an estimate until
he had a final say about the mural from the Committee. He also mentioned the landscaping and additional
fence work. Mr. Montgomery-Scott gave a rough estimate of $20,000 - $25,000.
Committee Member Bruesch — drew a rough sketch of what the monument and plaque at the Cemetery
would look like, and where the tiles /bricks can be placed. He then inquired when the start and end date for
the mural was.
Committee Member Montgomery-Scott— answered that the dates would depend on fundraising efforts. He
then stated that research in regards to bricks /tiles and pricing will be presented at the next meeting.
Committee MemberArmenta — inquired if Rosemead High School or San Gabriel High School had ceramic
ovens and could help fire the tiles for the City.
Committee Member Loa — recalled using a business like Color Me Mine, who specializes in painting and
firing objects, for a previous fundraiser.
Committee Member Bruesch — stated that the City of San Gabriel placed tiles around the Mission and the
Civic Center after the earthquake in 1987.
Committee Member Montgomery- Scott— summarized that the City will check to see if ceramic classes
were being offered at Rosemead and San Gabriel High Schools, and will also contact the City of San Gabriel
Committee Member Loa — recalled collaborating with the Moose Lodge for the Harvest Art Festival and
having Committee Member Camonte and his wife sell items on their behalf and splitting the profits.
Committee Member Bruesch — stated that the Moose Lodge usually allows fundraisers if they are able to
provide alcohol at their own bar, but this might pose a problem since the.City is considered a "dry" City. He
stated that having the bar would produce more profits.
Committee MemberArmenta — suggested that the bar would not be a part of the fundraiser.

Committee Member Bruesch — suggested the idea of a spaghetti cook -off wherein voters can "buy" extra
votes for their favorite candidates, therefore making extra money for the fundraiser.
4. DISCUSSION OF AGREEMENTS FOR PROJECTS
Committee Member Bruesch — inquired how long it would take the Artist to finish the mural.
Committee Member Montgomery- Scott— stated that the time it would take to finish the mural has to do with
the scope of the project and there is no timeline at this point.
Committee Member Bruesch — stated his desire to collaborate with the Cemetery's unveiling of the
monument and plaque. He then explained that he will bring up the idea to coincide both events at the next
monument committee meeting.
Committee MemberArmenta — agreed that there was a consensus in the committee to make a combined
event. She then stated that the next committee meeting would focus on making final decisions for the mural.
5. DATES AND TIMES FOR FUTURE MEETINGS
