SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR EVENT SPONSORSHIP AND IN -KIND SERVICES
SUMMARY
The Joy of Kung Fu, a regional martial arts organization, is again requesting City
sponsorship of their community -wide Fitness Awareness Day scheduled for Sunday,
November 17, 2013 at the Garvey Community Recreation Center through the provision
of in -kind services valued at $1,100 for the following:

The City has co- sponsored the event annually since 2010. The purpose of Fitness
Awareness Day is to encourage health and general wellness through demonstrations,
seminars, screenings, and vendors. The event would, again, involve healthcare and
fitness practitioners, instructional class instructors, the Red Cross and similar agencies.
Rosemead's community organization policy limits "funding requests" to non - profit
organizations or public schools based in Rosemead using funds for a "unique or
emergency situation." Joy of Kung Fu is not incorporated, this request is not for funding.
They are seeking City co- sponsorship of a community event for the benefit of
Rosemead residents. It is relevant to note that other organizations currently receive in-
kind assistance from the City in the form of field, facility, and light use.
Staff Recommendation
Staff is seeking City Council direction regarding the request of Joy of Kung Fu for
sponsorship of Fitness Awareness Day 2013 in the form of in -kind services valued at
$1,100.

FISCAL IMPACT
While no funds have been budgeted for Fitness Awareness Day, identified services
would be provided as part of the Fiscal Year 2013 -14 operational budget.
