Letter from ResidentDear Mayor Polly Low and council members, Since I am not able to attend the council meeting I would like to express my concerns about the restructuring of the public safety center via this written statement. I am sorry to hear that you are considering a change to the Rosemead Public Safety team. I have noticed a change for the better in the past few years in the crime rate. I believe this is due to the excellent team that th2 city has in place. am aware burglaries have gone up in the area, but I believe it is due to Prison realignment. I know other cities are having similar issues. Even more affluent cities nearby are dealing with the same problem. Rosemead is known as Small town America. And I noticed over the years the city has been moving in that direction and has done a great job. This has been evident with the beautification projects and emphasis on public safety. The public safety team in my opinion has been very effective in building bridges in the community and preventing crime. As in any organization it takes quite a while for a team to learn how work together. Once that is accomplished things run like clockwork. I am now afraid that if you make a change at this very crucial time it will be devastating to the city, I call home. With prison realignment. There are a lot more people roaming the streets looking to cause trouble. One of the great advantages of a having a team that has been around a long time is they know the area and the people of the community. And I believe that is very important and I am sure the sheriff department agrees because, at every neighborhood watch and public safety meeting I attend they stress we who live in the community know who should be there and who should not. If you make this change how long will it take before the new team gets up to speed. I have a family and don't want to put them at risk because, of a change in personal. We already went through a major change about a year and a half ago. The current Rosemead team serves the city as if they were residents of Rosemead. And that is good for our community. I know the Rosemead school district has a good relationship with the department and I am sure the Garvey School District and El Monte union school district will echo the same opinion. Rosemead has such a good reputation that I recently talk to someone who wants to move from San Marino to Rosemead. Not Temple City, San Gabriel or even Arcadia. Rosemead is on the move and we don't need any self imposed road blocks. In closing I urge you to reconsider your decision. Sincerely, Ron Esquivel 8722 Loftus Dr. Rosemead, CA. 91770
