CC - Item 3A - Proclamationsr TROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Guy Favatella graduated from Utah State University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and started working for a hotshot fire crew in the San Gabriel Valley, where he then realized his calling to work in the fire service; and WHEREAS, on October 31, 1987 Firefighter Favatella began his career with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and has progressed through the ranks of Paramedic, Engineer, Fire Inspector, and Captain; and WHEREAS, having worked as a Fire Captain for 15 years, Captain Favatella has served in leadership capacity at Station 42 in the City of Rosemead; and WHEREAS, countless people have been assisted, including the saving of lives, through his everyday actions often taken at the risk of his own life and well- being; and WHEREAS, Captain Favatella has demonstrated throughout his life and career a deep sense of responsibility, pride, community service, and "doing the right thing" whether it be for his family, community, and the fire service; NOW, THEREFORE, the Rosemead City Council does hereby congratulate Captain Guy Favatella for his outstanding career of over 27 years of fire service in the County of Los Angeles (including service in the City of Rosemead), and extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to him for his dedicated service to the safety and well -being of this community. William Alarcon, Mayor Margaret Clark, Mayor Pro Tem Sandra Armenta, Councilmember Jean Hall, Councilmember Polly Low, Councilmen C * °f q�osemead PROCLAMATION Public Works Week Proclamation WHEREAS, public works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizens' everyday lives, and WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets and highways, traffic, transportation, public buildings, and solid waste collection; and WHEREAS, the health, safety and comfort of this community greatly depends on the these facilities and services; and WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, designing, and construction, is vitally dependent upon the efforts and skills of public works officials; and WHEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform. NOW THEREFORE, The City of Rosemead City Council, does hereby proclaim the week of May 18" -24", 2014 as "National Public Works Week" In the City of Rosemead, and I call upon all citizens and citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the issues involved in providing our public works and to recognize the contributions which public works officials make every day to our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, the holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, lower our heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife; and WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood, for our homes, fuel for our fires and countless other wood products; and WHEREAS, trees is our City increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community. I, William Alarcon, Mayor of the City of Rosemead, do hereby recognize and proclaim the City's participation in "National Arbor Day ", and I call upon all citizens and civic organizations to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands, and I urge residents to plant and care for trees to help promote the well- being of this and future generations.
