The mission of Public Safety CONNECTIONS is to:

and to combat drugs and alcohol abuse;

opportunities for young people and their families;

3. SIGNIFICANT LAW ENFORCEMENT INCIDENTS
Lt. Somoano provided an updated crime report including the following:
• Property crimes are still on the rise. This is attributed to narcotics use.
• Local area department stores show an increase in theft.
• A female was arrested at 7700 block of Hellman for attempted arson and drug possession.
• Increase in crime committed at the Target parking lot.
• Increase in bike theft. Four people were recently arrested and charged with petty theft.
Per Jeff Allred, much of the crime appears related to methamphetamine use. It is readily available. Most
methamphetamines are imported from Mexico due to limited regulation.
Gregory Banuelos mentioned he would like start a petition to have residents of 3212 Rosemead Place
evicted. He believes there are pedophiles living at the property.
4. FINAL REVIEW OF THE REVISED “PARENTS SURVIVAL GUIDE” BEFORE PUBLICATION
An updated version of the Parent Survival Guide was provided to CONNECTIONS members. Jeff shared
that the Survival Guide is expected to be ready for distribution by Back-to-School Night. Any final changes
should be immediately be forwarded to Jeff Allred jallred@cityofrosemead.org, Linda Ta,
lta@cityofrosemead.org, David Montgomery-Scott, dms@cityofrosemead.org, or Mandy Wong,
mwong@cityofrosemead.org. Louisa Day was not able to attend and has sent Jeff an email for additions to
the Guide, but CONNECTIONS members feel that the information provided in the revised update are
sufficient.
5. BRIEF ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mandy Wong invited everyone to attend the National Night Out Celebration and Emergency
Preparedness Fair on August 5. Hot dogs and veggie dogs will be served. In addition, 35 exhibitors will
provide valuable resources for the community. There will be lots of give-a-ways and raffle prizes.
Sandra asked CONNECTIONS members to consider providing backpacks with school supplies to low-
income students in the future. Mandy indicated that she will look into finding assistance for the project.
Juan Tinoco mentioned that education is important and that he will be happy to assist with the project.
Wenli Jen invited everyone to attend the informational AIDS/HIV workshop on August 11 at 9353 Valley
Boulevard. In addition, Wenli will be teaching Public Health courses at Cal State Dominguez Hills. In her
absence, Lena Woo and/or Johnson will attend CONNECTIONS meetings.
Jane Chavez informed the group of a fundraiser will be held at The Habits in Rosemead on August 11
from 4 – 9 PM. 10% of the money raise will goes toward the Pregnancy Help Center of San Gabriel
Valley, Inc.
Sandra Armenta mentioned the recently formed Beautification Committee that meets every other month
for cleanup efforts and projects. She mentioned the committee welcomes volunteers and students that
need community services hours. The cleanup projects are on Saturdays. They operate two shifts: 9 - 11
a.m. and 12 – 2 p.m. The next project will be landscaping Savannah Cemetery with mulch. If anyone is
interested in volunteering, please contact Sandra Armenta at sarmenta@cityofrosemead.org.
Sergio Medrano mentioned his private afterschool tutoring program. He hopes to finalize a partnership

with the City of Rosemead to bring it to Garvey Center.
Lt. Somoano mentioned the two day “Hard Summer” rave concert at Whittier Narrows on Saturday,
August 2 and Sunday, August 3. Traffic will be a nightmare and its best to stay away from that general
location as crowds are expected to reach 35,000 each day.
