3. SIGNIFICANT LAW ENFORCEMENT INCIDENTS
Lt. Somoano provided an updated crime report including the following:
• Property crimes are still on the rise. Arrests are down for the month.
• One stolen car for the week versus numerous stolen cars per day previously.
• Shootings on Muscatel due to narcotic activity and victims were non-cooperative.
• During a motel operation methamphetamine and marijuana for sale was found.
• Stats update: burglaries are down 10%, robberies are down 10-15%, assaults are up 25% due to
domestic violence.
• Deputies were called to the Laundromat on Walnut Grove to assist patrons with a mentally ill
gentleman that was disturbing patrons and the business. The suspect was arrested for attempted
kidnapping.
• The house on the 3200 block of Rosemead Place is a licensed and recognized half way home for
Parolees. Deputies will continue to monitor and follow up.
• An arrest for kidnapping was made related to a Domestic Violence assault that occurred on Charlotte
and Klingerman.
• Summer Enforcement Team consisted of six deputies and one sergeant that provided extra patrol
and resources that contributed to the arrest of burglary suspects and a decrease in crime.
• Deputies do monitor social media and that’s how some crimes and disturbances are prevented
and/or solved.
• Joe Basile was able to identify a tagger that tagged Rosemead Community Center in July. The
damages estimated to be $10,000.
4. “PARENTS SURVIVAL GUIDE” DISTRIBUTION
David Montgomery-Scott shared the revised Parent Survival Guide, which is at the print shop and should be
available for distribution soon.
5. CITY OF ROSEMEAD YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM
David shared that Garvey and Rosemead Parks will have evening sports program (after hours);
Basketball, soccer, baseball, and football will be offered but a lot of the offering will depend of the
popularity. It is a community wide sports program.
6. COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT)
Mandy Wong invited the community to attend the CERT training. The training is a 24 hour course
consisting of 3 consecutive Saturdays, October 11, 18 and 25, and is conducted by the Los Angeles
County Fire Department. The training will teach emergency skills to save lives and property. Upon
completion of the 3-day training, a certificate will be received. This will enable CERT graduates for
continuous training and to volunteer and assist first responders during a disaster when requested by the
city. Applications are now being accepted and class size is limited to 35 participants.
7. COMMUNITY AREA WATCH UPDATE
Lt. Somoano stated the Community Area Watch program is going strong. We have two more areas to
cover before completion of the nine identified areas. The next two Area Watches are September 18, at
Temple Intermediate, and October 16, at Evergreen Baptist Church of L.A. on San Gabriel Boulevard.
The Area Watch focuses on crime prevention, community beautification and emergency preparedness.
Recently, we added a few slides on domestic violence awareness since our assaults has been up and
hoping to educate the community where resources are available, with emphasis on Alcohol, Drug and
Mental Health issues.
