1. INTRODUCTIONS/WELCOME
2. MINUTES – February 27, 2014
There was a motion by Lt. Somoano and a second by David Montgomery-Scott to approve the Public
Safety CONNECTIONS Forum minutes for February 27, 2014. Minutes were unanimously approved as
amended.
Jeff recapped the CONNECTIONS mission statement that all four bullet points are important quality of life
issues. We need to encourage greater participation and to enhance community outreach and input.
3. PRESENTATION BY COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION
Dr. Brian Bristol is the newly appointed principal at Rosemead High School. Dr. Bristol shared that he
grew up in Covina and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Cal Poly Pomona and a Master’s
Degree at Cal State San Bernardino. His experience includes Bonita Unified School District, Oregon
Administrative, South Pasadena School District, Apple, and the Lakeside School District. He indicated
that he loves helping people, but, particularly, students. He stated Rosemead High School is a
phenomenal and a high achieving school. Dr. Bristol hopes to help CONNECTIONS members achieve
our mission.
4. SIGNIFICANT LAW ENFORCEMENT INCIDENTS
Lt. Somoano provided an updated crime report including the following:
• In comparison, March 2014 residential and commercial burglary activity is down 10-20% compared to
March 2013.
• The latest trend in thefts in the San Gabriel Valley are vehicle batteries.
• On March 10, at Charlotte and Klingerman, a lovers’ quarrel ended in a shooting. The intended victim
was not hit and was cooperative with deputies. With the victim’s help, the suspect was arrested for
attempted murder.
• There has been an increase in robbery as compared to last year. Recently a 7-11 convenience store
was robbed.
• A field deputy patrolling the area noticed that a restaurant on San Gabriel had broken windows and a
truck was parked nearby. A suspect exited the restaurant and a pursuit followed. The suspect was
finally apprehended in Monterey Park. An arrest was made and the suspect has been linked to
multiple area burglaries.
• Community Area Watch meetings are being well attended. There were 85 attendees in Area 1 and
45 in Area 2. Feedback has been very favorable. One of the most important messages we
communicate to the meetings is to call in to Temple Station in the event of any suspicious activity.
5. UPDATE AND REVISION TO THE “PARENTS SURVIVAL GUIDE” REVIEW
Jeff Allred provided members with a draft of the Parent Survival Guide and reminded them that is another
resource for parents. As we update the guide, Jeff welcomes suggestions and input from CONNECTIONS
members to jallred@cityofrosemead.org. Discussion followed and many great suggestions were shared for
the update.
6. REVIEW OF INFORMATIONAL FOLDER/BROCHURE ABOUT ROSEMEAD
Jeff distributed a newly published folder created by the City’s Community Development Department
outlining the City’s business friendliness and the many benefits Rosemead offers to businesses. Some
