Lt. Somoano provided an updated crime report including the following:
• Vehicle burglaries are higher than this time last year. Late model Hondas and Toyotas are stolen
more often as they are easier targets.
• The latest trend in thefts in the San Gabriel Valley are vehicle batteries. This may be the result of a
new recycling law that requires no ID for batteries and aluminums. A parolee was arrested on
Easter Sunday for stealing car batteries at Garvalia.
• An increase in larceny due to increase in vehicle break-ins.
• Residential and commercial burglaries are down by 27% compared to last year of this time.
• Rosemead Special Assignment deputies have been proactive in vehicle operations, patrol checks,
motel compliance checks (5 drug-related arrests), and parolee compliance (arrests were made).
• Three search warrants resulted in three narcotics dealer arrests.
• Assaults have increased due to incidents of Domestic Violence; most of these are drug-related.
