By understanding how - people use a space, how ecological systems come into play, and how to integrate %' i architecture with the land,we are able to blend multiple disciplines to create livable, sustainable environments. We encourage sustainable design in all our iiprojects and strive to incorporate native species and preserve existing trees and landscape in our designs.Trees and shade structures provide shade and I reduce the heat from the concrete surfaces of skateparks.AtTulare Skatepark in California we designed the skatepark around 22 existing mature palm trees. All of the mature trees were preserved on the site. Nashville Skatepark in '"' I Tennessee was designed around a group of large mature pines.Saving the trees IA, created a larger foot print and provided a naturally shaded spectator area _ -,1! d-'-- within the skatepark. I i 1 1 • A - Storm Water Management Landscaped green space within and around concrete surfaces provide areas to --- naturally retain storm water runoff. We incorporate storm water retention 1 . systems or down stream storm water filtering systems to treat water run off. We make every effort to incorporate energy efficient and renewable building materials into each project. At LowerWoodland Skatepark in Seattle,Washington I : we utilized a storm water retention system to protect nearby Green Lake from• runoff from the surrounding areas as well as from the skatepark. We also used e` Y. a down stream storm water filtering system to treat all water run off. Santa I _ Monica Skatepark in California was designed to preserve all the trees on a very -t limited sized site and incorporated a storm water retention system. I -. ;. Construction Documents _ I Wally Hollyday Skateparks will provide the construction documents and — ` technical specifications for the skatepark. The content and detail developed for ' our skatepark construction documents is based on our experience in refining the process of designing and constructing skateparks. Our plans are organized P - to clearly represent the design specifications and allow for easy verification I a. and clarity during construction. The sculptural nature of skateparks requires a detailed vision by the landscape architect/designer to render plans that clearly illustrate the mechanics of a skatepark design for the specialised process of I skatepark construction. Our skatepark construction plans typically include 18- 35 pages depending on the size and complexity of the skatepark design. L 7 I IWALLY HOLLYDAY SKATEPARKS 3. PROJECT APPROACH I Skatepark Construction Wally Hollyday Skateparks can build or oversee the project's construction.Owner,Wally Hollyday's 30 year construction experience provides him with an in-depth understanding of how to construct a first class concrete skatepark. Wally I has attained an unmatched success achieving consistent quality concrete on design/build skateparks. All shotcrete is cut to I precise templates for reliable results. The transition is set to align exactly with the flat of the floor.Concise shaping of the shotcrete is the key to a quality finish. Wally Hollyday Skateparks experienced all skater crew only works on concrete skateparks and possesses a unique skill set put to use from the start to the finish of the construction phase PSkatepark Construction Process Layout and placement of coping is a critical stage in establishing design parameters in the field. Metal coping forms the I top edge of most bowls and acts as a guide for the shotcrete. The precision of installation has a direct effect on the over-all quality and usability of the skatepark.Sections are checked using templates.Proper shaping of dirt for fine grading is verified,as well as elevation and alignment to forms. The bottom of the template meets the flat bottom at the form. I Shotcrete uses compressed air to apply structural concrete to vertical and sculptural shapes.Templates are used as a guide for application..Templates are also used to guide a fresno for cutting shotcrete to a precise shape. Smooth hard trowel `sweat" finish provides the perfect balance of smoothness and grip for a high performance skating surface. Flat concrete decks and floors must be poured to perfectly align with shotcrete surfaces and match shotcrete finish. p ' . _ ,....„._ 7 .„,. 244C,-- ,. - t ■• ....-.... ca. The site was a difficult one, with a sloping grade and tight areas within which the design needed to fit. You and Charles Strawter did a fabulous job artfully fitting the skatepark into the landscape, and creating a site that beautifies the park and provides a well used and much loved amenity. The skatepark has been a wonderful addition to Ann Arbor Parks, and we truly appreciate the skillful and artistic work that went into its design and construction. Thank you for your fine work. When we began the process our staff and a group of local skaters did a lot of research on parks throughout California and Wally Hollyday parks came to the top of the list. Wally and his staff did an amazing job working with our local skaters and staff to design a park that has been a huge success for our community. The listened to the needs and even reviewed designs that the skaters brought in. There was a lot of energy around the design phase of the park because of the interaction Wally had with the kids. Once we were under construction,Wally ' worked side by side with the construction crews to make sure the forms and shotcrete were done just right. What a pleasure it is to see someone care so much about the final product! Ever since the day it opened young people flocked to the park to skate and hang out. We were very pleased to have built a quality park that will serve the community for years to come. • Thank you to Wally and his staff for a job well done! Wally provided exceptional service in the design and development of a Herriman City skate park, and the residents of our city are the benefactors. Experience with Wally Hollyday Design has been exceptionally positive. Herriman City staff and residents were impressed with the entire bid and design process. He successfully involved the whole community during the design process. Both city staff and residents were impressed with Wally and his ability to listen to concerns and consistently respond with careful reason and pragmatic consideration of expressed interests and desires. His goal was to have this skate park be Herriman City's skate park, not Wally Hollyday's skate park. Herriman City is impressed with the quality of work Wally Hollyday Design provided. The design, build and workmanship of the park successfully meet the needs of all skaters, from the novice, to the intermediate, to the more experienced skaters. He achieved his goal well and met all expectations that were proposed for the skate park. Wally and his team were very prompt and completed their work in a timely manner. He communicated well with residents and city staff and took the time to answer all questions asked. If the need arises to build another skate park, Herriman City would surely contract with Wally Hollyday Design again. Herriman City highly recommends Wally Hollyday Design and the quality service the company provides to its clients.
