NATIONAL WATER SAFETY MONTH
WHEREAS, the citizens of Rosemead recognize the importance of swimming and aquatic activities
r in relation to good physical and mental health and that such activities enhance the quality of life for
aftall people; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Rosemead understand the essential role that Water Safety education
plays in preventing drowning and recreational water-related injuries; and

(ti-yli WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead is aware of the contributions made by the Association of Pool &
� `- Spa Professionals, the National Recreation & Park Association, the American Red Cross, and the
irtedi World Waterpark Association in developing safe swimming facilities, aquatic programs, home pools
and spas, and related activities providing healthy places to recreate, learn and grow, build self-
* r[111 esteem, confidence, and sense of self-worth which contributes to the quality of life in our
1) community; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Rosemead recognize the ongoing efforts and commitments to educate
the public on pool and spa safety issues and initiatives by the pool, spa, waterpark, recreation and
parks industries; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Rosemead understand the vital importance of communicating Water
Safety rules and programs to families and individuals of all ages, whether owners of private pools,
users of public swimming facilities, or visitors to waterparks; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead offers a variety of swimming and other aquatic activities at the
Rosemead Aquatic Center and the Splash Zone at Garvey Park for the citizens of Rosemead that
encourage participants to be water safe; and
WHEREAS,the City of Rosemead will serve as a local host, partnering with agencies worldwide, to
offer the World's Largest Swimming Lesson on June 18, 2015;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEMEAD THAT WE
PROCLAIM MAY, 2015 AS NATIONAL WATER SAFETY MONTH.
