Sgt. Moreno provided an updated crime report including the following:
• DNA is an increasingly effective tool to assist law enforcement in identifying criminals.
• Grand Theft Auto has increased to 10 -12 incidents per week over last year. The most common
stolen vehicles are Hondas from 1990’s to 2000’s.
• Recently, a masked man robbed Sunshine Donut.
4. SUMMER RECREATION
David Montgomery-Scott shared an insert, “Parks After Dark” from the Parks and Recreation Brochure
Summer edition. The page provides information of family activities from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Rosemead
parks and community centers. Parks After Dark activities include special events and sports and fitness
activities. He also shared that Garvey and Rosemead pools are open. Swim lessons begin on July 7.
The brochure has been mailed out to residents. If you have not received a copy, please contact David
Montgomery-Scott at (626) 569-2160.
The Skate Plaza Kick-off meeting on June 17 was well attended. More than 50 attendees provided
feedback about elements they would like included in the skate park design. In July, there will be another
meeting. City Council will have to approve final design. Construction of the skate park comes from bond
proceeds. Construction should start in the fall.
A Farmers Market is coming to Rosemead. Green Leaf Events, Inc. contacted Sandra Armenta a
number of months ago and City Council approved working out an agreement for a weekly Farmer’s
Market beginning in August. It will be held Mondays, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on the Civic Center Plaza
beginning August 3. The event will feature food vendors and food trucks, children’s play area, and live
entertainment.
A fan, featuring 4th of July and summer concert information, was distributed to all members in
attendance.
The Duff Field, located adjacent to Garvey Park, is under renovation.
There are year-round sports program for youth preschoolers to 8th grade. For the summer, the City is
offering Basketball and T-ball.
Sandra Armenta brought up a concern about low attendance at this year’s Easter event. David
mentioned the City uses social medias (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) in addition to the website,
flyers, brochures, posters, and press releases.
