May 20, 2016
The Special Meeting of the Rosemead City Council was called to order by Mayor Armenta at 6:03 p.m. in the
Rosemead City Council Conference Room located at 8838 East Valley Boulevard, Rosemead, California.
PRESENT: Mayor Armenta, Mayor Pro Tern Low, Council Members Alarcon, Clark, and Ly
STAFF PRESENT: Acting City Clerk Hernandez
1. INTERVIEW AND APPOINTMENTS OF CANDIDATES TO THE PLANNING AND TRAFFIC
COMMISSIONS AND BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
Interviews for the Commissions/Committee where in the following order:
• Martha Ruvalcaba
• Nancy Eng
• Can Hai Liu
• Ross Aragon Jr.
• James Berry
• Sean Dang
The City Council recessed at 7:00 p.m. and reconvened the meeting at 7:04 p.m.
ACTION: Moved by Council Member Ly, seconded by Mayor Pro Tern Low to reappoint Nancy Eng
and Sean Dang to the Planning Commission to a 2 year term. The motion unanimously
carried by the following vote: AYES:Alarcon, Armenta, Clark, Low, Ly.
Mayor Pro Tem Low recused herself from the second portion of Commissions/Committee interviews at 7:45
p.m.
• Howard Masuda—via teleconference call
• Veronica Pena
• Roderick Omelas
• Katrina Padilla-Sornoso
• Philip Yang
ACTION: Moved by Council Member Clark, seconded by Council Member Ly to reappoint Howard
Masuda and Roderick Ornelas to the Traffic Commission to a 2 year term. The motion
unanimously carried by the following vote: AYES: Alarcon,Armenta,Clark, Ly. ABSENT:
Low

ITEM NO. 4.B
ACTION: Moved by Council Member Clark, seconded by Council Member Ly to reappoint James
Berry, Katrina Padilla-Sornoso and Philip Yang to the Beautification Committee to a 2 year
term. In addition,directed staff to amend Administrative Policy 50-08 and increase the
volunteer membership to eight members and appoint Ross Aragon Jr. and Can Hai Liu to the
Beautification Committee pending approval of policy amendment. The motion unanimously
carried by the following vote: AYES: Alarcon,Armenta, Clark, Ly. ABSENT: Low
2. ADJOURNMENT
The special meeting adjourned at 8:31 p.m. The next regular City Council meeting is scheduled to take place
on June 14th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Rosemead City Hall Council Chamber.
