Under the State Election Code 10229, if by the nomination filing deadline, the number of

Council) of the City and request the governing body adopt one of the following courses of action
at a regular or special meeting held before the municipal election:
1. Appoint to the office the person or persons who has or have been nominated;

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council adopt Resolution No. 2016 -67, cancelling the March 7, 2017, election and
appointing Sandra Armenta, Margaret Clark, and Steven Ly each to four -year terms of office as
City Councilmembers.
FISCAL IMPACT
While staff has yet to receive invoices for services and activities already undertaken in relation to
the 2017 General Municipal Election which include noticing requirements and translation costs
in four languages, election supplies, and training. We do not anticipate these expenses to exceed
$10,000. As a result, the City could see a savings of approximately $72,000 or more, due to the
initial budget of $82,000 for the election.
STRATEGIC PLAN IMPACT - None
