PSC - Minutes - 03-25-10 CITY OF ROSEMEAD PUBLIC SAFETY CONNECTIONS FORUM ® REGULAR MEETING ROSEMEAD PUBLIC SAFETY CENTER \ � 8301 GARVEY AVENUE EOC ROOM THURSDAY, MARCH 25, 2010 The three-told mission of Public Safety CONNECTIONS is to: • Serve as a community"think tank" and"information clearinghouse"to prevent crime and combat the impacts alcohol and drug abuse in Rosemead. • Assist in the effort to educate young people about the adverse effects of alcohol and drugs on their safety, quality of life, and future opportunities. • Increase awareness of parents, grandparents and other caregivers of their responsibilities to help young people to avoid the negative consequences associated with alcohol and drug use. MINUTES 1. WELCOME and PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE- Polly Low ROSEMEAD PUBLIC SAFETY CONNECTIONS FORUM MEETING MINUTES March 25,2010 3. PURPOSE OF THE ROSEMEAD PUBLIC SAFETY CONNECTIONS FORUM A. Policy Statement—Polly Low discussed the mission, purpose and goals of Rosemead Public Safety Connections and stakeholder involvement. B. Video—Jeff Allred shared a video("A Stones Throw"). This video explores the impact of adult attitudes and behaviors around alcohol use and its impact on youth attitudes and behaviors. C. Article—AP article"Teen pot, alcohol use on the rise, study show"validates the need to educate and provide resources and assistance to families and youth dealing with substance abuse. 4. "THE PARENT SURVIVAL GUIDE"—Lt. Murakami indicated that the purpose of the booklet is to serve as a resource reference for families in the West San Gabriel Valley. Meeting attendees were asked to review the booklet and provide changes to Mandy Wong. Wenli Jen requested the booklet be emailed to attendees. 5. OTHER MATTERS—Attendees were asked to provide an overview of programs, services and experiences relevant to the forum. Veronica Pena asked about a lack of school official representation during the forum. Mandy Wong replied that invitation was mailed to Superintendents of Rosemead and Garvey. Polly Low expressed a need develop a specific action plan for Rosemead Public Safety Connections. 6. FORUM CONSENT DATE AND TIME ON MEETING SCHEDULE—Attendees agreed that Rosemead Public Safety Forum meetings will be held the last Thursday of each month. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 29, from 6:00 p.m.to 7:30 p.m., at the Rosemead Public Safety Center. 7. PUBLIC COMMENT—N/A 8. ADJOURNMENT—7:54 p.m. Page 2 of 2
