PSC - Minutes - 02-24-11 CITY OF ROSEMEAD PUBLIC SAFETY CONNECTIONS FORUM ® REGULAR MEETING ROSEMEAD PUBLIC SAFETY CENTER \ I 8301 GARVEY AVENUE EOC ROOM THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2011 The three-fold mission of Public Safety CONNECTIONS is to: • Serve as a community"think tank" and"information clearinghouse"to prevent crime and combat the impacts alcohol and drug abuse in Rosemead. • Assist in the effort to educate young people about the adverse effects of alcohol and drugs on their safety, quality of life, and future opportunities. • Increase awareness of parents, grandparents and other caregivers of their responsibilities to help young people to avoid the negative consequences associated with alcohol and drug use. INTRODUCTIONS/WELCOME 2. "TO SAVE A LIFE"VIDEO The movie depicted as number of issues faced by today's teens including divorce, broken families, bullying, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, cutting, and suicide. The movie also discussed rejection, acceptance, forgiveness, and other values choices. 3. "TO SAVE A LIFE"VIDEO DEBRIEFING Daniel Sumarriva of Calvary Chapel led a discussion about the film.There was a lot of positive feedback from participants. The group also discussed ways that some of the values portrayed in the film could be taught through program and activity efforts. The committee will discuss ways to show the film to community audiences at the next CONNECTIONS meeting. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT 5.
