3. RE-ORDERING OF PARENT SURVIVAL GUIDE UPDATE
Jeff Allred shared that we have sufficient funds in the Public Information budget to order additional copies
of the Parent Survival Guide from our current printer who will charge approximately$1,000 less than a
printer suggested by a CONNECTIONS member. The forum unanimously approved the re-order.
4. BILL AB 183
Ms. Aiha Nguyen from LAANE addressed the CONNECTIONS Forum. She shared the findings of a
study of four major grocery store chains, Vons, Ralphs, Albertson, and Fresh and Easy, with self check-
out stands. Apparently, self-check out stands, due to limited supervision and inadequate technology,
makes it easier for youth to purchase or steal alcohol. AB 183 will disallow the sale of alcohol at self
check-out. LAANE has requested that the CONNECTIONS Forum write a letter of support for AB 183.
Jeff will check the National League of Cities position on AB 183 before any letter of support is drafted.
5. CRIME STATS
Sgt. Moreno gave a brief summary of residential and vehicle burglaries, broken down by reporting
districts, for the period September 2010 to March 2011.
6. "SAVE A LIFE" VIDEO UPDATE
Rosemead High School Assistant Principal Richard Gabriel indicated that they are working with Daniel
Sumarriva to present the video to seniors at the high school April 26 or 27. The presentation will be
followed by discussion. Mr. Gabriel will notify CONNECTIONS of the date once finalized.
Jeff suggested that we invite Mark Keppel High School (MKHS) and San Gabriel High School (SGHS)
administrators to the presentation in hopes that they will host a future presentation for their students. In
addition, CONNECTIONS members suggested reaching out to the middle school parent associations to
encourage presentations at local middle schools.
7. PUBLIC COMMENT
Sandra Armenta shared that she recently attended the National League of Cities in Sacramento where
the City of San Jose shared details of their anti-gang efforts. She has requested printed materials that
she will share with the CONNECTIONS Forum once received.
Mandy Wong, on behalf of Wenli Jen, Asian Pacific Family Centers shared of the upcoming "Got Skills"
Youth talent show scheduled for May. APFC is asking that we share information about the show through
affiliated agencies. Wenli can provide additional information.
