The three-fold mission of Public Safety CONNECTIONS is to:
• Serve as a community"think tank"and "information clearinghouse"to prevent crime and combat the
impacts alcohol and drug abuse in Rosemead.
• Assist in the effort to educate young people about the adverse effects of alcohol and drugs on their
safety, quality of lite, and future opportunities.
• Increase awareness of parents, grandparents and other caregivers of their responsibilities to help
young people to avoid the negative consequences associated with alcohol and drug use.

1. INTRODUCTIONS/WELCOME
2. MINUTES—April 28,2011
The Public Safety CONNECTIONS Forum April 28, 201, May 26, 2011 and June 30, 2011 minutes will be
tabled for approval at the July 28, 2011 meeting per Jeff Allred.
3. COMMUNITY FUN DAY FAIR
Mandy Wong and Jerry Mota gave an update of the September 17, 2011 Community Fun Day Fair.
Mandy asked CONNECTIONS members if they would like to conduct classroom style seminar(s) at the

Fair to discuss different types of violence and it, multiple sessions, would they be offered concurrently.
Forum members will think about it and get back to us at the next meeting.
4. ROSEMEAD HIGH SCHOOL BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT
Larry Cecil has confirmed that Rosemead High School Back-to-School is scheduled for Tuesday,
October 4,2011.The title of the event will be called "Learn to L.O.V.E." (Leave Out Violence Everyday).
We will offer seminars regarding relationships, bullying, and domestic and general violence. These topics
will lead into a presentation of the movie "To Save a Life."
Larry is working on the schedule with a tentative time for the movie from 4-6 p.m. and Ribbon Cutting
ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Mandy and Larry will continue to work on this event. More updates to come.
5. FOURTH OF JULY
Jeff Allred shared that the City will be having its annual 4Th of July parade beginning at 10 AM and
carnival rides till 10 PM. The firework show starts at 9 PM.
6. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT(NNO)
Mandy shared that NNO is an evening for residents to get together and celebrate our police and
community partnership in keeping neighborhoods safe. NNO is scheduled for Tuesday, August 2, 6-9
PM at Zapopan Park. There will be tree hot dogs(while supplies last), kids fingerprinting, moonbounce,
raffle drawings, safety tips, resource booths, and much more. It is also a night for"Neighborhood
Networking Opportunities."
7. PUBLIC COMMENT
Jeff shared that the Garvey Pool, Splash Zone grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, July 9, 10 AM.
Wenli Jen shared about the Life Scale and LEAD programs. In addition, everyone is invited to attend the
25Th Anniversary of the Asian Pacific Family Center on October 26, 9 AM to noon.

The next CONNECTIONS Forum is scheduled for Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Public
Safety Center.
