The three-fold mission of Public Safety CONNECTIONS is to:
• Serve as a community`think tank"and "information clearinghouse"to prevent crime and combat the
impacts alcohol and drug abuse in Rosemead.
• Assist in the effort to educate young people about the adverse effects of alcohol and drugs on their
safety, quality of life, and future opportunities.
• Increase awareness of parents, grandparents and other caregivers of their responsibilities to help
young people to avoid the negative consequences associated with alcohol and drug use.

Motion by Able Moreno to approve the Public Safety CONNECTIONS Forum April 28, 2011 minutes.
Second by Wenli Jen. Minutes were unanimously approved with the correction of Nancy Eng's title from
Traffic Commissioner to Planning Commissioner.

Motion by Steve Rivera to approve the Public Safety CONNECTIONS Forum May 26, 2011 minutes.

MINUTES—June 30,2011
Motion by Wenli Jen to approve the Public Safety CONNECTIONS Forum June 30, 2011 minutes.
Second by Abel Moreno. Minutes were unanimously approved.
3. COMMUNITY FUN DAY FAIR UPDATE
Mandy Wong provided an update regarding the fair which has been officially named "Family Fun Day
Fair." CONNECTIONS members agreed to host two (2) sessions on Domestic Violence in classroom-
style format. The sessions will be offered 10:00 — 10:20 and 11:00 — 11:20. Mandy will pursue guest
speakers for the event. Wenli shared that CEPAC is available if needed.
4. GANG DIVERSION TEAM (GDT)
Deputy McNicholas represents the new Gang Diversion Team at Temple Station. The GDT develops
intervention plans to assist at-risk kids and/or gang members and their families in the San Gabriel Valley
who are serious about leaving the gang lifestyle. The program is a collaboration of law enforcement and
the community-based organizations that will provide the services. The target age group includes Junior
High and High School aged youth.
Sandra Armenia shared that she would like to see a City Ordinance regarding parental financial
responsibility for Graffiti abatement and related costs (i.e., parents abate the graffiti and/or pay for its
removal).
5. ROSEMEAD HIGH SCHOOL BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT
Larry could not attend meeting so Jeff provided an update. Rosemead High School Back-to-School is
scheduled for Tuesday, October 4, 2011. The'To Save a Life'video will be presented at 4:00 p.m. and
the Ribbon Cutting ceremony will occur at 6:30 p.m.
6. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT(NNO)
Mandy invited CONNECTIONS members to attend the event on Tuesday, August 2, 6:00—9:00 PM at
Zapopan Park to celebrate our police and community partnership in keeping our"Small Town America"
community safe.
If agencies would like to pass out information on upcoming kids' program they are welcome too, but they
need to oversee the CONNECTIONS booth.
7. PUBLIC COMMENT
Jeff will be working with Mandy to compose an Annual Report regarding CONNECTIONS forum
accomplishments. The report will be presented to City Council.
Wenli Jen shared on some upcoming Asian Pacific Family Center events.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Meeting adjourned at 6:50 PM
The next CONNECTIONS Forum meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at
the Public Safety Center.
