The three-told mission of Public Safety CONNECTIONS is to:
• Serve as a community"think tank"and Information clearinghouse"to prevent crime and combat the
impacts alcohol and drug abuse in Rosemead.
• Assist in the effort to educate young people about the adverse effects of alcohol and drugs on theft
safety, quality of life, and future opportunities.
• Increase awareness of parents, grandparents and other caregivers of their responsibilities to help
young people to avoid the negative consequences associated with alcohol and drug use.

August 25,2011
1. INTRODUCTIONS/WELCOME
Two new members will be joining the CONNECTIONS forum. Jessica Ancona, Muscatel Middle School
and Letty Mata, Church of God.
2. MINUTES—July 28,2011
Motion by Nancy Eng to approve the Public Safety CONNECTIONS Forum July 28, 2011 minutes,
second by Sandra Armenta. Minutes were unanimously approved.
3. DEPARTMENT OF ALCHOLIC BEVERAGE CONTROL(ABC)
Nicole Gomez and Andrea Florentinus from ABC shared important information on agency enforcement
efforts regarding:
• Underage drinking
• Alcohol sales to minors/adult purchase of alcohol for minors
• Fake ID's
• Shoulder tapping in store front
• Underage consumption of energy drinks with alcoholic content including Tilt, Jooce, and Four Loco
4. COMMUNITY TASK FORCE FOR AOD PREVENTION
Wenli was to speak on this agenda item but is out sick. Item will be tabled for next month
CONNECTIONS meeting.
5. BILINGUAL ANTI-DRUG EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS DISTRIBUTION LIST
Jeff shared a list of bilingual anti-drug educational materials complimentary of the West San Gabriel
Valley Community Anti-Drug Network (CAN). CONNECTIONS members interested in ordering materials
should send an email to Wenli from Asian Pacific Family Center.
6. FAMILY FUN DAY FAIR UPDATE
Mandy Wong provided an update regarding the event. There will be three sessions of educational
seminars including two sessions on Domestic Violence in a classroom-style format. Sessions will be
offered 9:30 — 10:30 and 12:15 — 1:15. The seminar will be led F.O.C.I.S. and information provided in
English and Spanish. Deputy Farley and Deputy Probation Officer Gutierrez will host a Cyber Predators
session 10:45— 11:45.
7. ROSEMEAD HIGH SCHOOL BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT UPDATE
Richard Gabriel shared that Rosemead High School Back-to-School is scheduled for Tuesday, October
4, 2011. The'To Save a Life"video will be presented at 4:00—6:00 p.m. and the Ribbon Cutting
ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m.
Mandy drafted an event flyer which Richard will take for review by Principal Larry Cecil.
8. CONNECTIONS ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Polly shared a list of the accomplishments of the CONNECTIONS forum for the 18 month period
February 2010 through August 2011. She asked members to review and contact Mandy with any
questions.

9. PUBLIC COMMENT
Sandra Armenta shared that she recently assisted Rosemead Public Works crews with graffiti
abatement. Sandra said she has a lot of respect for our city staff, and is even more determined to have
a graffiti ordinance drafted. Jeff indicated that he is currently working on the draft.
The September 11th 5K and 1-mile RuNWalk is open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to
participate. Registration is now being accepted through the Parks and Recreation Department. All
proceeds go to the Memorial Project.

Meeting adjourned at 7:08 PM
The next CONNECTIONS Forum meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.
at the Public Safety Center.
