The three-fold mission of Public Safety CONNECTIONS is to:
• Serve as a community"think tank" and "information clearinghouse"to prevent crime and combat the
impacts alcohol and drug abuse in Rosemead.
• Assist in the effort to educate young people about the adverse effects of alcohol and drugs on their
safety, quality of life, and future opportunities.
• Increase awareness of parents, grandparents and other caregivers of their responsibilities to help
young people to avoid the negative consequences associated with alcohol and drug use.

minutes, seconded by David Montgomery-Scott. Minutes were unanimously approved.

3. REVIEW OF DRAFT GRAFFITI ORDINANCE
Jeff shared that the graffiti ordinance is scheduled for first reading on November 8, 2011,
CONNECTIONS members were asked to review and provide input.
Nancy Eng asked that language referencing other means to recover abatement costs if occupant is not a
property owner be added under Section 2G of the Financial Liability for Cost of Graffiti Abatement.
4. SGV YOUTH SUMMIT
Wenli shared that the 2012 Youth Summit is scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Garvey
Intermediate School, 2720 Jackson Street from 8 am to 5 pm. They are looking for presenters interested

5. RHS "TO SAVE A LIFE" MOVIE UPDATE
Larry Cecil and Richard Gabriel shared that there were approximately 200 kids attended the movie
presentation during RHS' Back-To-School Night on October 4, 2011. Rosemead High School would like
to host another presentation with a later starting time.
Daniel Sumarriva thought the first showing was a good start and is confident that a second presentation
would reach more people.
6. IDEAS FOR 2012
CONNECTIONS members were asked to share ideas for 2012.
Polly Low expressed a desire to see more parent involvement. Polly suggested inviting input from
residents, businesses, and Block Captains regarding effective Public Safety programs and ways to
increase community involvement.
Mandy Wong suggested that the next Monthly Community Safety Meeting include an open forum to
discuss ideas and invite anyone that may want to share their ideas.
Wenli shared that kids should be our number one priority and that parents are the key to reaching them.
She indicated that the Parent Teacher Association (P.T.A.) is a good way to access parents and schools.
Lt. Murakami suggested that we consider a campaign demonstrating Rosemead a friendly City which
would focus on fostering positive interactions throughout the community.

The next CONNECTIONS Forum meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at
the Public Safety Center.
