D. Commercial Task Force Team
At the City Council meeting of June 28, 2016, the City Manager was requested to consider
the formation of a task force to assist with the attraction of a new retail grocery
store/neighborhood market. While the initial request was for this task force to specifically
assist with the attraction of a new retail grocery storelneighborhood market, staff would
encourage the City Council to consider a broader vision. In taking a closer look at the focus
of this task force staff thinks the task force could take a more proactive role in the
attraction/retention of national and regional retail tenants in our community. This could be
very beneficial as the City has recently approved several mixed-use projects and is in the
process of developing a Garvey Avenue Specific Plan where attraction of national/regional
retail tenants will contribute to the longevity and success of future projects.
Recommendation: That the City Council that the City Council take the following actions: (1)
Authorize the formation of a Commercial Task Force Team consisting of two members from
the City Council, one member from the Planning Commission, the City Manager, and staff
from the Community Development Department; (2) Appoint two members from the City
