The three-fold mission of Public Safety CONNECTIONS is to:
• Serve as a community 'think tank"and "information clearinghouse"to prevent crime and combat the
impacts alcohol and drug abuse in Rosemead.
• Assist in the effort to educate young people about the adverse effects of alcohol and drugs on their
safety, quality of life, and future opportunities.
• Increase awareness of parents, grandparents and other caregivers of their responsibilities to help
young people to avoid the negative consequences associated with alcohol and drug use.

There was a motion by Art Landing and a second by Richard Gabriel to approve the Public Safety
CONNECTIONS Forum September 27, 2012 minutes.

3. SIGNIFICANT LAW ENFORCEMENT INCIDENTS—LT. MURAKAMI
Lt. Murakami provided a brief overview of recent incidents including:
• Crime in Rosemead is down 23%. Temple Station as a whole is down 7.19%
• Recent arrests including domestic violence between man and his girlfriend, identity theft, and
parole violations.
• Grand Theft Auto(GTA) is on the rise. Suspects are using shaved keys.
• Two Cafes in Rosemead were known to have their hostesses serve drinks in lingerie, but have
recently they been in compliance.
• Methamphetamine use is on the rise. Marijuana and Heroin use is popular among youth at only
$10 fora balloon.
• Baby tourism continues to be popular as pregnant Chinese nationals are brought into USA for
the purpose of giving birth in order to gain US citizenship for their babies.
• Hotel compliance checks are done monthly by Rosemead Special Assignment Deputies.
Some discussion among CONNECTIONS members followed.
4. PRESENTATION BY KIMBERLY JACKSON, FAMILY PROMISE OF SAN GABRIEL VALLEY
Kimbedy Jackson shared that Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley (FPSGV) is a non-profit
organization that helps children and family experiencing homelessness get back on their feet. Partnering
with local inter-faith congregations and committed volunteers, FPSGV is able to provide meals, shelter,
job development, case management, and other support services. They received a Community
Development Block Grant from the City of Rosemead. Kimberly provided program brochures to the

5. QUICK REFERENCE RESOURCE CARDS UPDATE
Nancy Eng was not in attendance but wanted us to consider including NAMI's contact information on the
resource cards as another resource to families. Tim Murakami suggested re-organizing the resource
card to a tri-fold style so more numbers can be included. Mandy Wong will work on the tri-fold and bring
it to FORUM members for review.
6. IDEAS/PROJECTIONS FOR 2013
Sandra Armenta opened the discussion to FORUM members for ideas and projections for 2013.
The following issues were discussed:
PROJECTIONS
• Increase neighborhood watch (duties)
• Increase neighborhood wellness and clean-up efforts(beautiflcation program)
o Volunteer chain-link and iron bars removal
o Have students take ownership of local parks
o Work with schools on year-round school cleanup.
• Increase awareness and actual parent supervision

PROPOSED PROGRAM
• School environment
• PTA outreach, involvement
• Clean-up days as part of year-round planning
• Graffiti resistance shielding for new establishments
• Include the "10 Steps Parents Can Take to Prevent Teen Alcohol and Drug Use"in the Rosemead
Resources.
EXISTING PROGRAM
• Chain-link fence removal program (optional)
• Resident/community programs
Wenli-Jen suggested that the FORUM members should consider the following when proposing an idea:
1. Focus on 1-3 problems or issues
a. 1-3 solutions
b. reasons/causes of problems
2. Long-term goal and shod term-goal
3. Assessment of existing programs and resources
This agenda will be tabled for further discussion at the November 29, 2012 meeting.
7. BRIEF ANNOUNCEMENTS
Art Landing invited Forum members to the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast on Monday, November 12, 8:30 —
10:00 a.m. at Garvey Community Center. Space is limited. Tickets are$5 each.
Ron Esquivel informed the group that Red Ribbon Week RunNValk is scheduled for October 27, 8:00
a.m. The cost is$5.
8. PUBLIC COMMENT
Natalie Garnica, of San Gabriel Mountains Forever shared information about their leadership academy.
9. ADJOURNMENT
Meeting adjourned at 7:36 p.m.
The next CONNECTIONS Forum is scheduled for Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the
Public Safety Center. A short meeting will be held to be followed by a preview movie of"October Baby."
