The mission of Public Safety CONNECTIONS is to:
• Serve as a community 'Think tank" and "information clearinghouse" on ways to prevent crime
and to combat drugs and alcohol abuse;
• Develop and promote positive and wholesome recreational activities and community service
opportunities for young people and their families;
• Coordinate with organizations that address human and social services needs to promote a
healthy community; and
• Promote and encourage emergency preparedness by all community members.

2. MINUTES—June 30, 2016
There was a motion by James Berry and a second by Bill Alarcon to approve the Public Safety
CONNECTIONS Forum minutes for June 30, 2016.
3. SIGNIFICANT LAW ENFORCEMENT INCIDENTS
Lt. Somoano provided an update on crime activity, including the following:
a Part I Crimes, Year to Date; compared to this time last year- 2 more robberies; increase in

Burglary (Residential and Commercial) by 25%; Assault the same; Auto Theft decrease by
37%(70 less cars stolen compared to last year).
o In June 2016, the south end of the city of Rosemead, a Search Warrant was served by gang
detectives at a location on Pine Street,found were narcotics and an assault rifle. One gang
member was arrested on multiple felony charges.
o On July 16, three cars were damaged (windows) by kids throwing rocks between 2 am - 4
am on Garvey Av, near El Pollo Loco. The suspects fled to a nearby apartment complex
and have not been arrested.
o On July 22, a Gang member(suspect)was at Kelbum Avenue and Garvey Avenue when he
was hit by a car while crossing the street. The Fire Department responded and was treating
the victim. When deputies arrived, the suspect started to walk away because he had a gun
in his pocket. Luckily no shooting occurred, as the suspect reached into his pocket and the
deputies were close enough to retrieve the gun from him. The known gang member, a
convicted felon, was charged with possession of a firearm by,a convicted felon, as he was
released from jail in December 2015.
o A bomb threat was reported on July 22, at the Bank of the West. The bank received a phone
call of a bomb at the building. The Bank took the necessary safety precautions and it turned
out to be nothing.
4. FUTURE/FOCUS OF THE CONNECTIONS FORUM GROUP
CONNECTIONS Chair Margaret Clark asked what would CONNECTIONS members like for the future of
the group? Ideas suggested were:
• Clean up efforts for the elderly who do not have the mobility. The Kiwanis Key Club volunteers
will help with the efforts.
• Have NAMI educational classes combine its outreach with an existing program currently at the
Rosemead Community Recreation Center.
• To tie in the Mission Statement from the SWOT analysis and work on the weaknesses.
• Rebuild stakeholders by emailing existing stakeholder for their commitment and if they are no
longer interested remove members from the current database.
• Provide responsibility for stakeholders.
• Piggy back off of the City's Community Game Night.
5. BRIEF ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mandy Wong invited everyone to attend the 33b annual National Night Out (NNO) Celebration in
conjunction with an Emergency Preparedness Fair and Back-to-School Resource Fair is Tuesday,
August 2, from 6 pm—9 pm at Rosemead Park.
Juan Tinco invited everyone to attend "Achieving California Dream" on July 30 from 8-noon at the
University of the West, with a free continental breakfast. Guest speakers are Senator Ed Hernandez,
Assemblyman Ed Chau, and Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles Community College District Mike
Eng.
James Berry announced the Beautification Committee's Annual Holiday Award. More details to follow.
Nancy Eng announced the abundance of resources and support NAMI provide to families. For more

Meeting adjourned at 7:17 pm.
The next CONNECTIONS Forum is scheduled for Thursday, August 25, 2016, at 6:00 pm. Due to the
dust and limited parking from the construction and renovation of Zapopan Park the CONNECTIONS
meetings have changed its venue to the Rosemead Community Recreation Center, 3936 North
Muscatel Avenue until further notice.
