4. PURPOSE AND FOCUS OF CONNECTIONS
Sandra Armenta was a special guest and substituting for CONNECTIONS Co-Chair, Bill Alarcon, is here
to remind CONNECTIONS members the purpose of CONNECTIONS. She mentioned the focus is not
quite there. Ms. Armenia reminded us about the CONNECTIONS Mission Statement and what we as a
group should be focusing on. There should be no hostile environments at the CONNECTIONS Forum
meetings and members should be allowed the opportunity to express their thoughts and suggestions.
Members should not feel intimidated and/or be uncomfortable. CONNECTIONS members should be
proud of the many accomplishments such as the Social Host Ordinance, Graffiti Ordinance, Parent
Survival Guide Book, and Town hall Meetings on alcohol and drug awareness.
Lastly, continue to strive and take into the consideration the CONNECTIONS purpose and Mission
Statement.
Juan mentioned about the formation of a CONNECTIONS sub-committee to work on the SWOT
analysis and asked Sandra regarding the benefits of the SWOT analysis.
SWOT is a tool to help generate information. When too many sub-committees are formed, breakdown
of communication occurs. We may want to re-review the purpose of CONNECTIONS sub-committee.
Discussions and dialogues followed.
