National Preparedness Month is a nationwide coordinated effort sponsored
by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security each September to
encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies in their home,
businesses, and schools; and,
this effort aims to increase public awareness concerning the importance of
preparing for emergencies and to persuade individuals to take action; and
during the month of September, the City of Rosemead will continue to
urge residents to take measures to make themselves and their families
better prepared by taking appropriate preparedness measures to be self-
sufficient for seven to twenty-one days; and
the City of Rosemead has hosted a variety of community-based activities
and events over the years designed to educate the community about their
role in a disaster, facilitating individual and family disaster readiness, and
increasing survivability during and after an emergency through personal
preparedness; and
Rosemead residents are encouraged to participate in the Community
Emergency Response Team (CERT) training in October; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rosemead remains committed to emergency preparedness and
affirms that residents can help reduce the risks associated with a disaster
by learning how to better prepare themselves, their families, and the
community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Rosemead City Council does hereby
proclaim the month of September 2017, as "National Preparedness Month," in the City of
Rosemead and encourages all citizens, businesses, public and private agencies, and educational
institutions to participate in ongoing emergency preparedness efforts.
